PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Cedrick Dudley (ranked 7468 p4p, 0 weight class) and Datu Bahktayn (ranked 24879 p4p, 0 weight class). Datu Bahktayn will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Cedrick Dudley!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Datu Bahktayn!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Chris Downing and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bahktayn swats away the attempt to clinch by Dudley.
Bahktayn now looks to counter with a shot at the body.
Dudley keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Dudley could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Dudley drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Bahktayn scrambles and gets back to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Dudley works Bahktayn's body with a nice hook.

Dudley shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Bahktayn wants to get back to his feet.
Bahktayn keeps control of the position for the meantime.

Well, if Dudley is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Bahktayn fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Dudley takes the fight into the clinch.
Dudley stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Dudley pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.

Dudley manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Dudley jumps guard but Bahktayn turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Cedrick Dudley. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Dudley tries to pull guard but Bahktayn holds him up against the cage and eventually Dudley drops back down to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Cedrick Dudley will probably get the nod.
That's time! Dudley's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Dudley shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Bahktayn napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Dudley is trying to get an arm triangle but Bahktayn is defending well.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Bahktayn wants to control but Dudley postures up.

Dudley is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Bahktayn is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Bahktayn tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.
Bahktayn tries to buck Dudley off but he can't manage it.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Bahktayn is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Dudley takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Dudley avoids the attempt from Bahktayn to control.

Bahktayn trying desperately to get to his feet.
Dudley thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.

Bahktayn is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Bahktayn wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Dudley.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cedrick Dudley dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Dudley wants to clinch up but Bahktayn keeps it at a distance.
Bahktayn avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Bahktayn doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter.
Dudley falls off balance throwing a combination
and Bahktayn makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Dudley shoots and misses
and Bahktayn counters with a left to the body.

Dudley fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Bahktayn to the ground. Dudley is now in Bahktayn's guard.
Dudley throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Bahktayn works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Bahktayn wants to stand and escape but Dudley is having none of it.

Bahktayn pushes Dudley off and scrambles back to his feet.
Dudley tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Bahktayn counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Dudley shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Bahktayn counters with a series of strikes. Dudley will be more careful next time no doubt.

Dudley has taken the fight to the clinch.
Dudley wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Bahktayn tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Dudley avoids it.
Dudley can't find room to land a body shot as Bahktayn controls the action.
Bahktayn misses with a body punch.
Bahktayn goes for a body shot but it's blocked.

Dudley ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Dudley no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Dudley is working hard here to advance position.
Dudley manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Bahktayn manages to get himself to full guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Dudley throws a big elbow that misses.
Dudley has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Bahktayn avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Dudley lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Bahktayn wants to stand but Dudley is controlling the position.

Dudley postures up.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Dudley throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Bahktayn tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Dudley is in Bahktayn's guard.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Bahktayn manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
Datu Bahktayn has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
The referee is keeping an eye on Dudley - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Bahktayn misses with a punch to the body.
Cedrick Dudley is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Dudley will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Bahktayn up against the cage.

And that's the end of the fight!
Datu Bahktayn comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Dudley has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
