Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
43 - 27 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jim Fitzsimmons! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
8 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Mako Akumba! The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Timothy Bukovac and .
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Fitzsimmons stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Fitzsimmons wants it to stay on the feet. A little feinted left hand from Fitzsimmons on the counter but he doesn't commit to it. Fitzsimmons misses the shot to the body. Akumba lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected. Akumba ducks under a wild hook from Fitzsimmons. Fitzsimmons avoids the head kick by Akumba.
Fitzsimmons fakes a jab and then connects with a hook. Fitzsimmons takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily. Akumba has his takedown stuffed and Fitzsimmons counters with a nice uppercut.
It looks like Mako Akumba has been cut. Akumba misses with a takedown attempt and Fitzsimmons counters with a lovely straight right hand! Jim Fitzsimmons has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mako Akumba. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. The fight stays on the outside here - Akumba looks like he's thinking about clinching though. A counter left hand to the body from Fitzsimmons misses its target. Mako Akumba seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Akumba misses with a takedown and Fitzsimmons counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Fitzsimmons wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Akumba has him pressed against the cage. Akumba's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Fitzsimmons throws a looping overhand right but Akumba ducks down to avoid it. Fitzsimmons scores with a jab to the body. Fitzsimmons swings for the body but Akumba moves out of range.

Fitzsimmons looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight. Fitzsimmons jabbing away but nothing is landing. Fitzsimmons leaves Akumba with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Akumba on the wrong end of a nice jab. Jim Fitzsimmons is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Akumba drives through with a takedown into guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Akumba prevents Fitzsimmons from getting back to his feet. Akumba working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Akumba postures up in Fitzsimmons's guard and throws a big left but Fitzsimmons blocks it. Fitzsimmons is controlling Akumba's posture. Fitzsimmons wants to sweep but no luck. Akumba controls the pace of the fight for a moment. This has been an exciting period of action! Fitzsimmons working a defensive guard here.
Akumba decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. Akumba gets a clinch.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Fitzsimmons tries to break the clinch but Akumba is controlling the position. Fitzsimmons is looking to control Akumba's arms but Akumba gets an underhook and turns him. Now Fitzsimmons has his back to the cage. Akumba breaks from the clinch.
Akumba is trying hard to land a takedown here. Fitzsimmons sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Fitzsimmons lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh. Akumba misses with a takedown attempt - Fitzsimmons sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. A little feinted left hand from Fitzsimmons on the counter but he doesn't commit to it. Akumba keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
A telegraphed right hand from Fitzsimmons misses the target. Akumba shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Fitzsimmons's guard. Fitzsimmons is pulling down on Akumba's head to control his posture.

Fitzsimmons might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Akumba preventing the sweep. Fitzsimmons is working an open guard so Akumba takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Fitzsimmons misses with a straight left. Akumba moves out of range as Fitzsimmons strikes. Akumba will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Fitzsimmons looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.

Akumba tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Fitzsimmons counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. That's one minute gone in the round. A looping hook to the body misses from Fitzsimmons. Akumba does a little dance to reset his feet. Akumba closes the distance and pushes Fitzsimmons back into the cage. Fitzsimmons misses with a short punch on the inside. A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors. Fitzsimmons throws a head punch that misses. Akumba's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not. Akumba goes for a takedown in the clinch but Fitzsimmons prevents it.

Akumba has a takedown stuffed. Fitzsimmons swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect. A right-left combo lands from Akumba. Fitzsimmons cracks Akumba with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd. Fitzsimmons looks to land a left hand but Akumba moved out of range nicely. Akumba fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Fitzsimmons is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Akumba can do to turn this around? Fitzsimmons waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Akumba. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. That's three minutes gone in the round. Akumba fails to land the takedown. Akumba looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Fitzsimmons! Akumba is looking to take a break and control but Fitzsimmons is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Akumba decides to stand up, so the ref orders Fitzsimmons to his feet. Akumba tries to close the distance and clinch up but Fitzsimmons swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Fitzsimmons tries to score with a low kick but Akumba moves his leg out of the way. Fitzsimmons misses with a body kick. Fitzsimmons throws a solid leg kick but Akumba takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Fitzsimmons. Akumba shoots in but doesn't get the takedown letting Fitzsimmons counter with a right hand. Mako Akumba is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Akumba tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Fitzsimmons swivels and escapes. Akumba shoots in for a takedown but Fitzsimmons shows good takedown defense. Akumba shoots for a double leg takedown but Fitzsimmons sprawls well. He's pushed Akumba's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Fitzsimmons looks to score with a jab to the body but Akumba is just out of range. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Akumba displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Fitzsimmons throws out the jab. Akumba gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Fitzsimmons connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Akumba walks into a left hand. Nice cross by Akumba. Akumba instigates a clinch. Akumba stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.

Akumba looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Fitzsimmons is fending him off so far but Akumba persists. Nope, Fitzsimmons circles away and we're back to standing. Fitzsimmons lands with a right hand. Fitzsimmons cracks Akumba with a nasty uppercut that draws ooohs from the crowd and sends Akumba tumbling backwards onto the mat. He tries to recover but Fitzsimmons pounces and lands a hail of unanswered strikes that forces the referee to step in to end the fight! Akumba is not happy but he gave the referee no choice!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:57 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jim Fitzsimmons! Jim Fitzsimmons tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
