PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Fred Vai te Pegar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Denis Freire (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Denis Freire told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Fred Vai te Pegar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Denis Freire!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Mauricio Rocha and Leandro Rodrigues.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Vai te Pegar looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Freire looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Vai te Pegar not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Vai te Pegar bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Vai te Pegar is persistently looking for the submission but Freire is defending it well.
Vai te Pegar is looking to control Freire but Freire is wriggling around and keeping busy.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Freire defending nicely against the rear naked choke attempt.
Freire is trapped and Vai te Pegar is scoring with shots to the head and body.

Vai te Pegar is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Freire has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Vai te Pegar has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Freire has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Vai te Pegar is looking to control Freire but Freire is wriggling around and keeping busy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Fred Vai te Pegar dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!



Vai te Pegar shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Vai te Pegar cracks Freire with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Freire is in all sorts of trouble here.

Freire tries to control Vai te Pegar's body but Vai te Pegar pushes him off. Freire squirms to his side and now Vai te Pegar has his back!

Vai te Pegar is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Vai te Pegar thows a huge left but connects with the canvas and not his opponent.
Vai te Pegar is looking to control Freire but Freire is wriggling around and keeping busy.

Freire won't enjoy being in this position. Vai te Pegar looking for the choke. Oh... he's slipped the arm under the neck - Freire is tapping - it's over boys! Vai te Pegar picks up the submission victory!
