Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
10 - 23 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Marcos Martinez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
22 - 20 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Jimmy McLarnin! The judges for this bout are William Peck, Robert Douchet and Ian Loll.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Martinez swings away with a leg kick that misses. Martinez throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. McLarnin was covering up waiting for the punch and Martinez finishes the takedown easily into guard. Martinez got a little sloppy there for a moment and McLarnin has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Martinez has managed to get both his arms back between McLarnin's legs - danger averted. McLarnin working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Martinez. Martinez trying to control the position from guard on top but McLarnin is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Martinez postures up and lands a big shot to McLarnin's brow. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. McLarnin controls Martinez momentarily but Martinez frees himself. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Martinez trying to control the position from guard on top but McLarnin is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Martinez trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Martinez with a flurry of punches that miss. Martinez trying to control the position from guard on top but McLarnin is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. McLarnin wants to stand up but Martinez is controlling him. McLarnin is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Martinez defends well. Martinez wants to get up but he can't break McLarnin's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. McLarnin escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Martinez gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Martinez got a little sloppy there for a moment and McLarnin has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Martinez has managed to get both his arms back between McLarnin's legs - danger averted. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Martinez's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Martinez content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. McLarnin is trying to control the position but Martinez postures up. McLarnin looking for subs off his back but Martinez has passed one foot through into half guard.

McLarnin keeps trying to improve his position. Martinez is pressing down on McLarnin's thigh, looking to free his foot. McLarnin is holding on for now. Martinez is looking for a kimura here.
Martinez wants to pass to mount but McLarnin is defending the position. Martinez slips a nice elbow through McLarnin's hands, connecting with McLarnin's forehead. Martinez is looking to take a break and control but McLarnin is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Martinez lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Martinez wants to take a breather but McLarnin is having none of it. Nice strikes from Martinez there. McLarnin manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Martinez keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage. McLarnin lands a damaging elbow. Martinez wants a takedown.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Martinez has clasped his hands together around McLarnin's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done. Martinez in the domination position with McLarnin hanging on. Martinez swings around for an armbar but McLarnin sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Martinez's guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Marcos Martinez will probably get the nod. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

McLarnin tries to clinch up and Martinez counters with a nice double leg into half guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Martinez is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, McLarnin has managed to free his arm - good work.

McLarnin is trying to control but can't.
Martinez misses with a head shot. McLarnin uses the momentum to regain guard. Martinez works over McLarnin with some ground and pound from guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. McLarnin has an active guard here but Martinez has managed to pass into half guard.
Martinez wants to lay and pray for a moment but McLarnin keeps working. Martinez is taking a breather. McLarnin says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. McLarnin manages to escape and get back to his feet! Marcos Martinez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Martinez drives through with a takedown into McLarnin's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. McLarnin has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Martinez has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage. Martinez jumps into guard, dragging McLarnin to the mat.
Martinez is looking for a triangle but McLarnin pushes his legs off easily.
That's three minutes gone in the round. McLarnin lands a couple of decent looking shots. Martinez keeping moving, preventing McLarnin from controlling successfully. McLarnin throwing strikes but missing. Martinez is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. McLarnin tries to get to full guard but Martinez has control of the leg. Martinez is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

McLarnin has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Martinez is on him like a limpet, forcing McLarnin back against the cage. Martinez tries to score a body lock takedown but McLarnin shows good agility there to stay on his feet. Martinez has McLarnin pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Martinez pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending McLarnin tumbling to the mat - Martinez dives into McLarnin's guard. McLarnin has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Martinez has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! McLarnin prevents a takedown attempt there.

A close second round but Jimmy McLarnin will probably get the nod - 10:9. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!
Martinez dives in for a single leg takedown but McLarnin sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. McLarnin swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made. Martinez fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but McLarnin avoids it really well and circles away. McLarnin misses with a double jab.
Martinez wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch. Martinez gets the takedown into side control. McLarnin throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done! We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. McLarnin throws a right and a left that Martinez avoids nicely. McLarnin's jab looks to have found its range, popping Martinez under the eye.

Martinez closes the distance and clinches up with McLarnin, looking for a takedown. Martinez pushes McLarnin against the cage but McLarnin circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. McLarnin lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Marcos Martinez. That's going to take a lot out of him. Excellent takedown into side control there by Martinez. Martinez cracks McLarnin with an elbow. That is naaassty. McLarnin is working to avoid the ground and pound but Martinez connects with a decent elbow. McLarnin is trying to work for a sweep but Martinez has mounted him! Martinez landing strikes from the mount and McLarnin is in trouble!
McLarnin is rocked! McLarnin holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Martinez tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
McLarnin is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. This has been an exciting period of action! Martinez postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. McLarnin looks a forlorn figure.
McLarnin is still in real trouble! Can Martinez finish him? Martinez avoids the attempt from McLarnin to control. McLarnin seems to have recovered his senses. Martinez tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Martinez prevents McLarnin from getting the reversal. Martinez moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, McLarnin has worked his arm free - good work by McLarnin!

That's three minutes gone in the round. Martinez laying and praying for a moment but McLarnin takes advantage and regains half guard. Martinez throwing shots but McLarnin is blocking nicely. McLarnin gets full guard. McLarnin wants to sweep but no luck. Martinez lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. McLarnin keeping moving, preventing Martinez from controlling successfully. McLarnin wants to stand up but Martinez is controlling him. Martinez wanted to stand there but McLarnin had control of the position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Martinez scoring with some ground and pound. McLarnin manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage. Martinez tries to pull guard but McLarnin forces him back to his feet, against the cage. McLarnin tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked. Martinez has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by McLarnin after a bit of a struggle. Martinez manages to pull guard.
McLarnin distracts Martinez with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. McLarnin advances position into side control! Martinez is looking for a sweep.
And that's the end of the fight! I would just about give that final round to Jimmy McLarnin. I think McLarnin has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
