PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Paul Warror (ranked 135 p4p, 19 weight class) and Russell Northrop (ranked 453 p4p, 66 weight class). Northrop comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Alive And Kicking kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 26 - 11 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, Paul Warror!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 23 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Russell Northrop!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, James Atkins and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Warror pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Northrop flicks out a counter leg kick but Warror steps away.

Warror tries to keep at a distance but Northrop has taken the fight into the clinch.
Warror misses with a body punch.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Northrop has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Northrop lands a hook to the side of the head.
Northrop misses with a punch to the body.
Northrop wants to break the clinch but can't.
Northrop misses with some punches.

Northrop breaks the clinch.
A decent looking body kick lands there for Warror.
Warror lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Northrop misses the jab.
Warror throws a hook to the side of Northrop's head but Northrop sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Northrop tries to close the distance and clinch up but Warror swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Northrop tries for a takedown but Warror sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Northrop throws a hook but Warror blocks it.
Northrop dives in and grabs Warror's left leg, looking for a takedown. Warror pushes down on Northrop's head and hops out.

Northrop instigates a clinch.
Northrop fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Paul Warror has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Russell Northrop.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Northrop tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Warror just stands there and leans against the cage.

Northrop ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Northrop no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Northrop looking for subs off his back but Warror has passed one foot through into half guard.
Warror controlling the action here.
Northrop is pressing down on Warror's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Northrop is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Northrop is looking for a triangle here but Warror uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Warror decides to stand back up. Warror steps back and let's Northrop get back to his feet.
Warror connects with a looping right hand.
Warror throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
It seemed like Northrop was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Warror throws a body punch but Northrop moves out of range.
As Warror backs off Northrop throws a huge counter combo but Warror manages to avoid it all.
Northrop throws a right hand that misses
and Warror counters with an outside leg kick.
Northrop doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Northrop takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Warror throws a nice outside leg kick.
Northrop wants to clinch but Warror slips to the side
and Warror cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Russell Northrop seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Northrop throws a lazy uppercut
and Warror connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.


Northrop is rocked!
Northrop on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Warror. Warror obviously looking to wear him down.

Warror lands a big right hand that sends Northrop crashing to the mat! Warror stays standing though and waves Northrop back to his feet!
Northrop is still on wobbly legs! Can Warror finish him?
Northrop throws a lazy body kick
and Warror counters with a powerful cross that connects right on the chin and the lights go out! A massive one punch knock out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Paul Warror!
A relieved looking Paul Warror thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
In defeat, Russell Northrop stepped up to the mic, saying 'No fair. He tried to kiss me.'.
