PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Laxa Tiv (ranked 3566 p4p, 173 weight class) and Edmund Shklyarskiy (ranked 3244 p4p, 159 weight class). Tiv comes to the ring accompanied by I have a bad case of Diarrhea - Japanese learning English. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Laxa Tiv! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Edmund Shklyarskiy! The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Robert Twigg and Frank Dennis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Shklyarskiy moves forwards but Tiv connects with a nice, crisp jab. Shklyarskiy swings for the body but Tiv moves out of range.
Tiv throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Shklyarskiy's waist but Shklyarskiy gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Tiv off to one side. Tiv shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Shklyarskiy misses with a looping left. Tiv closes the distance and clinches up with Shklyarskiy, looking for a takedown. Tiv pushes Shklyarskiy against the ropes but Shklyarskiy circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Laxa Tiv. That's going to take a lot out of him. Shklyarskiy misses with a hook. Tiv ducked under it nicely. Tiv takes one to the side of the head.
Shklyarskiy stuns Tiv with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range. Tiv scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Tiv postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Shklyarskiy really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Tiv. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Tiv connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Shklyarskiy some visible discomfort.
Shklyarskiy is trying to improve his position. You can see the frustration on Shklyarskiy's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Tiv throwing strikes but missing, from side control. Shklyarskiy is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the ropes but Tiv has just dragged him back down to the mat. Shklyarskiy tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Tiv wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Shklyarskiy gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. Shklyarskiy is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Tiv pulls his head out easily. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Tiv thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Shklyarskiy's head. Shklyarskiy has hold of Tiv's hands but Tiv slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. Tiv thumps the canvas. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Shklyarskiy can do anything to dispel that myth. Tiv is nestled in close to Shklyarskiy, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Shklyarskiy is rocked! Tiv scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Shklyarskiy is still in real trouble! Can Tiv finish him? Tiv lands a massive shot from half guard that has rocked Shklyarskiy! More strikes land and this one is all over! Tiv jumps to his feet and is applauded loudly by the crowd!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:46 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Laxa Tiv! Laxa Tiv decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
