Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Gen Gen! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Big Wood! The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Dillan Fox and Trevor Gratis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Wood looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Gen! Gen is in all sorts of trouble here.
Gen wants to control but Wood is having none of it. Wood postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Gen looks a forlorn figure.
Gen is looking to improve his position but Wood isn't that keen on the idea. Gen takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position. Gen is wriggling around trying to escape.
Gen is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Gen working to try and regain half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Wood postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Gen looks a forlorn figure.
Wood looking to control but Gen is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gen regains half guard. Wood lands with a punch from half guard. Wood scoring with strikes to the body and head. Wood throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Gen flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Wood not landing any meaningful shots this time. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Gen looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Wood thows a huge punch but Gen dodges it nicely.
Gen keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Gen wants to control but Wood is keeping busy.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Wood throws a right hand that Gen ducks under and follows up with a left that Gen also avoids with ease.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Wood looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Gen is fending him off so far but Wood persists. Nope, Gen circles away and we're back to standing. Wood shoots in but Gen avoids the takedown attempt easily. Wood looks gassed! No luck for Wood with that takedown attempt. Gen Gen has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Big Wood. Gen looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Wood has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Gen forces his way into half guard. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Gen wants to pass to mount but Wood is defending the position. Wood is refusing to be controlled, as Gen sits in half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gen moves into full mount! Wood won't be happy about that! Wood wants to get back to his feet.
Gen is working for a guillotine from mount but Wood frees his head quite easily.
Gen can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Wood is looking to escape. Gen goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Wood is on top in guard.
Gen looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Wood gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Gen blocks a jab. Wood will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Wood misses with a takedown and Gen counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Gen is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Gen wants to pass the guard but Wood is keeping the position. Gen trying to control but Wood is working from the bottom. Gen wants to pass the guard but Wood is keeping the position. Gen is working hard here to advance position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Gen Gen will probably get the nod. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Wood misses with a takedown and Gen counters with a shoot takedown. Wood fights it but they end up in guard. Gen trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Gen drops back looking for a leg! Wood is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Wood manages to kick Gen off! Gen jumps back into Wood's guard. Wood wants to sweep but no luck. Gen trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Wood is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Gen pushing down on Wood's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Wood looking for submissions off his back. Gen is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Wood is just riding it out for now. Gen eventually gives up the hold.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gen is looking for a kimura here.
Gen trying to mount his opponent but Wood defends it. Gen looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Wood with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Gen is looking to take a break and control but Wood is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Gen looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Gen wants to pass the guard but Wood is defending well. Wood is staying active underneath Gen, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Wood looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Wood closes the distance but Gen moves to the side and Gen counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Wood's guard now. Gen is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Wood keeping moving, preventing Gen from controlling successfully.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Wood trying to control the position.
Gen is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Gen passes into half guard. Gen is looking for a kimura but Wood is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Gen to get the leverage. Wood looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Gen landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. Wood is in trouble now - Gen has advanced to mount! Gen has hold of Wood's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Wood manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Gen trying to control but Wood is having none of it. Wood swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing. Gen jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Wood manages to avoid the submission attempt. Gen tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Gen Gen dominated that second round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!
Wood misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Big Wood seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Gen fails with the takedown and Wood moves into the clinch. Gen has Wood pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Gen pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Wood tumbling to the mat - Gen dives into Wood's guard. Gen is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Wood is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Wood has escaped and now he's on top! Gen keeping full guard, as Wood tries to pass. Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Wood loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Wood gets to his feet. Gen looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son! Wood tries to clinch but fails miserably and Gen counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Wood's guard now. Gen drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Wood manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Gen has Wood in his guard. Gen escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Wood gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Gen on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Gen tries to get out of the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Gen looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Wood passes into half guard.
Gen is looking for a sweep. Wood is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Gen has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Wood is working away from the top position though. Gen looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Wood wants to stand up but Gen has a hold of him and won't allow it. Gen moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Gen is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gen is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Wood throws a right and a left that both miss. Gen Gen is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Wood misses with a wild combination.
Wood scoring well with a low kick there.
Gen changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Wood looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Wood is trying to escape and get back to his feet. Big Wood has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Gen blocks the strikes from Wood.
Gen in side control, just content to control the action for now. Gen is trying to get an arm triangle but Wood is defending well. Gen thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Gen controls the position from side control.
And that's the end of the fight! Gen Gen showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Gen, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
