Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Britt Marsh! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Stud Play! The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Paul Gruel and Chris Saunders.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Marsh falls off balance throwing a combination
and Play connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Britt Marsh's cut is getting worse. Marsh misses with a body punch
and Play makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick. Marsh darts in looking for a takedown but Play gets double underhooks and turns Marsh into the cage. Marsh backing away here, and Play unleashes a leg kick that just misses. Marsh throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Play was covering up waiting for the punch and Marsh finishes the takedown easily into guard. Play is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Marsh presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat. Play working some nice short punches in the clinch.
That's one minute gone in the round. Play turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Play manages to end up in side control. Play working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter. Play trying to control the action but Marsh is working from the bottom. Marsh stops Play from passing to mount. Play trying to control the position but Marsh is working away. Marsh is looking for a sweep. Play tries to advance to mount but can't.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Play misses with the ground and pound. Marsh is trying to control Play's posture but Play avoids it. Play wants to control but Marsh is keeping him busy. Play is trying to ground and pound but Marsh uses the momentary lack of control by Play to regain half guard. Marsh might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Play wants to control but Marsh is keeping him busy. Marsh is trying to maintain the position but Play is very close to passing his half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Marsh keeping hold of Play's head, controlling as best he can. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Marsh throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Marsh looking to score a takedown here. Play is defending well but Marsh drives through and ends up in Play's guard. Play scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Marsh wants to clinch but Play slips to the side and Play counters with a stiff right hand.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Marsh drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Play is wriggling around but Marsh manages to pass to half guard.
Play looks winded!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Play manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Marsh keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage. Play has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Marsh uses from the top position. Marsh stands up from guard. Let's bang! Marsh bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Play tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck. Marsh wants to finish this one by submission but Play is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Marsh. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Stud Play dominated that round. The cut man is working on Britt Marsh's cut. That's time! Back to the action!
Marsh tries to clinch but Play moves out of range. Marsh lands the left hand. The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Play. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man. Marsh with a poor takedown letting Play counter with a right hand. Marsh closes the distance but Play moves to the side and Play connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Britt Marsh seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Marsh throws a left and a right that both miss
and Play counters with an outside leg kick.
Marsh will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Play was about to counter that last move with a leg kick but changes his mind.
That's one minute gone in the round. Marsh closes the distance and pushes Play back into the cage. Marsh really is a fat lump. Play is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.

That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Marsh misses with a looping right. Play appeared to try and counter that last move with a leg kick. Marsh tries to bum rush Play with a series of wild strikes but Play uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Play is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range. Marsh swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Marsh misses with a right hand and Play counters with an inside leg kick. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Marsh darts in trying to clinch and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Marsh darts in and clinches Play up against the cage. Play breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Marsh closes the distance but Play moves to the side enabling Play to counter with a crisp jab.
Britt Marsh's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it. Play showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Marsh.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Marsh throws a head kick that misses. Play flicks out a counter leg kick but Marsh steps away. Play takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.

Stud Play is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Marsh misses with a takedown attempt and Play cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Marsh pushes Play up against the cage in a clinch. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close second round but I would say that Britt Marsh will probably get the nod. The cut man is working on Britt Marsh's cut. That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!
Marsh uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Play has time to react. Stud Play seems to be getting the better of the standup. A momentary lapse in concentration from Play enables Marsh to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Play manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Play manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Marsh tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Marsh shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Play has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Marsh is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Play gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Marsh regains guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily. Marsh pulls Play in close to his closed guard and prevents Play from doing any damage or advancing position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Play wanted to stand there but Marsh had control of the position. Marsh keeping full guard, as Play tries to pass. Marsh is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. Play wants to stand and escape but instead Marsh has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Play is working an open guard so Marsh takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Marsh throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Play cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Marsh tries to clinch but Play is having none of it. Play flicks out a counter leg kick but Marsh steps away. Marsh tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Play only half commits to the counter leg kick. Marsh fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Play looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it. Marsh misses with a takedown attempt - Play sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Play only half commits to the counter leg kick.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Marsh looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. And an attempted straight right on the counter from Play! But no joy. Marsh's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Marsh duly obliges. Marsh forces Play back against the cage and clinches. Play has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight. Marsh content to slow the pace in the clinch.
Marsh tightens his grip and picks Play up, before dumping him to the ground. Play manages to land in guard. Stud Play has got the better of the ground game so far. Play controls Marsh momentarily but Marsh frees himself. Play has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Marsh is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Play.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Play is looking to regain half guard here but Marsh keeps moving and retains side control. Marsh stands up and we're back to a striking position. Marsh closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Britt Marsh. I think Marsh has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
