Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Cortez Rios! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Daniel Bruce! The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Ian Loll and William Peck.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Bruce closes the distance and clinches. Bruce lands an elbow inside.
It looks like Cortez Rios has been cut. Rios swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Rios changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Bruce fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Bruce moves into the clinch successfully.
Rios really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Bruce lands a nice elbow from the clinch. Bruce lands an elbow that stopped Rios in his tracks for a moment. Bruce is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Rios is defending well for now. Rios scores with an uppercut up the middle. Bruce landing some nice looking knees to the body.
Rios looking to stall.
Bruce taking a breather. Rios has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Bruce is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Bruce unloads a knee to the mid-section. Rios is breathing heavily. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Bruce lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.
Cortez Rios's cut is getting worse.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bruce breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Rios is trying hard to land a takedown here. Bruce sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Cortez Rios. That's going to take a lot out of him. Bruce lands a big head kick that sends Rios to the canvas! Bruce follows up with strikes from the mount that forces the ref to step in and stop the fight!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:15 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Daniel Bruce! Daniel Bruce bigged himself up after the win. The crowd seemed to love it.
