PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gail Roth (ranked 23728 p4p, 0 weight class) and Justin Henderson (ranked 6588 p4p, 0 weight class). Henderson comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Old Town Road kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! The fight MMA fans around the world have waited their entire lives for!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Gail Roth!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Justin Henderson!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Elvis Blanc and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Henderson pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Roth back to the cage. Henderson follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.

Roth closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Roth working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Roth is looking to take a break and control but Henderson is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Roth not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Henderson is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Roth knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Henderson on the ground.
Roth stops Henderson from getting back to his feet.
Henderson wants to control but Roth is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Roth is trying to control the action in half guard but Henderson is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Roth throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Roth lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Roth is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Roth thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Henderson's head.
Roth prevents Henderson from improving his position.
Roth is thwarting Henderson's attempts to control the position.
Roth perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Roth not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Roth slips a nice elbow through Henderson's hands, connecting with Henderson's forehead.
Roth throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Henderson holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
Henderson has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Roth is working away from the top position though.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Henderson displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Roth.
Henderson tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.

Roth moves into the clinch.
Roth really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Roth is trying to pull guard but Henderson turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Roth drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Henderson gets the underhooks and prevents it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Gail Roth. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Roth tries for a takedown. No joy.

Henderson has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Roth is trying to keep an underhook but Henderson manages to get the takedown into half guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Henderson prevents Roth from standing back up.

Roth has one foot on Henderson's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.

Henderson closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Roth explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Henderson takes the fight into the clinch.
Roth tries to break free but Henderson pushes him back against the cage.

Henderson lands a takedown into guard.

Roth has his foot on Henderson's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Henderson works his way back into a safe position though.
Roth is breathing heavily.
Henderson slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Roth is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Henderson is controlling him.
Henderson works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Roth is looking to escape.
Henderson takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Roth wants to improve his position but Henderson is controlling well.
Henderson perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Roth pushes Henderson off looking to stand but Henderson dives back in and keeps control.
Roth is looking to get back to full guard here but Henderson has managed to pass to side control instead.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Gail Roth will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Roth gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Henderson to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Roth is looking to stand back up but Henderson counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Roth.

Roth tries to roll over but Henderson keeps him under control.
Henderson working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Roth is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Roth gets back to full guard.
Henderson controls from within his opponent's guard.
Roth will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Roth looking to hit a scissor sweep but Henderson is one step ahead there.

Roth scrambles and gets back to his feet.

Henderson feints and as Roth raises his hands in defense, Henderson changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Roth working for a triangle but Henderson defends it easily.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Roth working for submissions but it's allowed Henderson to get to half guard.

Henderson is working for a submission of some sort.

Henderson tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Henderson is keen to just control but Roth is a slippery customer.

Roth is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Henderson pulls his head out easily.

Henderson cracks Roth with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Henderson tries to stand up but he's trapped just for the moment.
Henderson looking to control but Roth is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Roth is trying to escape the mount.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Roth wants to get back to his feet.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Roth got a little sloppy there for a moment and Henderson has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Roth has managed to get both his arms back between Henderson's legs - danger averted.

Henderson takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Roth is staying active underneath Henderson, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Roth is trying to buck Henderson off.

Roth throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!

Henderson shoots in and bounces Roth off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Roth is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Henderson dives into side control.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Roth is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Henderson is one step ahead and moves to full mount!

Justin Henderson comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Henderson has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
