Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Renaldo Herrera! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Bryan Mortimer! The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Konstantin Menshow and Sergei Dronov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mortimer bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Mortimer goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Herrera has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Mortimer but great work by Herrera. Herrera decides to stand up, so the ref orders Mortimer to his feet. Mortimer manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Herrera on his heels. He'll look to pass Herrera's guard now, I'm sure. Herrera controlling Mortimer's posture. Herrera might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Herrera is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Herrera is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Herrera working over Mortimer with some ground and pound. Mortimer looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Herrera stands up out of the half guard. Mortimer scores with a leg kick.
Mortimer closes the distance and clinches. Herrera struggles to land a body shot inside as Mortimer controls his hands.
Herrera has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Mortimer uses from the top position. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Herrera is on top in guard.
Herrera stands up and waves to Mortimer to follow him. Mortimer looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Herrera! Herrera explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Mortimer shoots in and bounces Herrera off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Herrera is controlling Mortimer's posture. Herrera has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. Mortimer pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Herrera is keeping the position for now.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Herrera wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now. Mortimer trying to stand up but can't free himself from Herrera's guard. Mortimer is fighting to break Herrera's control of his arms but Herrera is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Mortimer distracts Herrera with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Herrera is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Mortimer presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat. Herrera tightens his grip and picks Mortimer up, before dumping him to the ground. Mortimer manages to land in guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Mortimer has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Herrera has passed into side control.
Mortimer really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Herrera. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Mortimer can't do much from the bottom here. Mortimer is looking to reverse the position. Mortimer tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Herrera presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount! Mortimer is looking to improve his position but Herrera isn't that keen on the idea. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Renaldo Herrera dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Mortimer moves into range and lands a nice leg kick. Herrera takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Mortimer shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Herrera has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Mortimer has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage. Herrera could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Mortimer breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. The fight stays on the outside here - Mortimer looks like he's thinking about clinching though. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. A jab lands there for Mortimer.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mortimer closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Herrera's guard. Herrera is controlling Mortimer's posture. Mortimer sitting in guard here, content to control. Herrera looking for a sweep. Not yet Herrera, not yet. Herrera manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Mortimer manages to get himself to full guard.
Mortimer is trying to keep Herrera in close.
Renaldo Herrera overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Mortimer is striking but Herrera is not phased and passes to half guard.

Mortimer wants to improve his position but instead Herrera has moved into half guard.
Mortimer is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Herrera scores with a couple of nice shots. Mortimer scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Herrera manages to mount him!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Herrera is landing with some decent strikes but Mortimer is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Herrera cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Mortimer wants to hold on but Herrera pushes him away. Mortimer in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head. Herrera dominating with strikes here. Mortimer is trying to escape the mount.
Mortimer wants to control but Herrera is having none of it.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Mortimer flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.
Mortimer can't escape the position.
Mortimer tries to improve his position but instead Herrera has taken his back! Mortimer tries to escape but Herrera has the hooks in and won't let him break free. Mortimer is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Herrera gets his way!
Herrera is working the ground and pound. Can Mortimer escape? And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Renaldo Herrera dominated that second round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!
Herrera misses with a takedown attempt - Mortimer sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Herrera tries to keep at a distance but Mortimer has taken the fight into the clinch. Herrera has Mortimer pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Herrera pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Mortimer tumbling to the mat - Herrera dives into Mortimer's guard. Mortimer pushes Herrera off and gets back to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Mortimer throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Herrera.
It looks like Renaldo Herrera has been cut.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mortimer stuffs the takedown. Mortimer has closed the distance and engaged Herrera in a clinch.
Herrera tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Renaldo Herrera. That's going to take a lot out of him. Mortimer drags the fight down to the ground.

Mortimer wants to get back to his feet but Herrera is dominant here and he's now got Mortimer's back! Herrera keeps control of the position as Mortimer tries to break free.
Mortimer defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Herrera's arms. Herrera is looking to finish with some ground and pound!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mortimer manages to reverse the position and now he's in Herrera's guard. Nice work there by Mortimer.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Herrera unloading with bombs! Herrera avoids the attempt from Mortimer to control. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Herrera is working for a guillotine from mount but Mortimer frees his head quite easily.
Bryan Mortimer has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Renaldo Herrera is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Herrera is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Mortimer can do to turn this around? Herrera is in the full mount, landing strikes.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Renaldo Herrera. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Herrera, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent.
