Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 13 - 0, fighting out of New York, Roderick Cruickshank ! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Percy Cunningham! The judges for this bout are John Roberts, David Schapiro and Eddie Farnsworth.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cunningham fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Cruickshank shoots in looking for a takedown. Cunningham tries to sprawl out of it but Cruickshank keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Cunningham manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Cruickshank tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Cunningham swivels and escapes. Cruickshank fails with the takedown. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Roderick Cruickshank . That's going to take a lot out of him. Cunningham tries to clinch up but Cruickshank circles away and keeps his distance. Cunningham gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Cunningham working hard to break the clinch. Both guys are working to get underhooks. Cruickshank has Cunningham pressed against the cage, preventing Cunningham from circling away and getting back to striking at range. Cruickshank is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage. Cunningham is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage. Cruickshank breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Cunningham drives through and clinches with Cruickshank against the cage.
Cruickshank breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Cunningham clinches. A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors. Cruickshank breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Cunningham lands a jab followed by a vicious hook that sends Cruickshank sprawling to the canvas. Cunningham follows him down, looking for the kill. Can Cruickshank hang on?
Cruickshank is rocked!
It looks like Roderick Cruickshank has been cut. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Cunningham lands a big elbow - Cruickshank is out of it! He's waving his arms around but his eyes are closed and he's not intelligently defending himself - the ref has no choice but to jump in and stop the fight! This one is in the books! A TKO win for Cunningham!
