Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Paul Irvin (ranked 2165 p4p, 0 weight class) and Buddy Franklin (ranked 22618 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
17 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Paul Irvin! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Buddy Franklin! The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Ben Watson and Ron Honeybunn.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Irvin throws a nice looking combination but Franklin bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Franklin shoots in looking for a takedown. Irvin tries to sprawl out of it but Franklin keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Irvin manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Irvin half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Franklin. Irvin tries to counter with a takedown but Franklin is quick to defend against it. Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Franklin slips a jab and a cross from Irvin.
Franklin feints the counter takedown. Franklin closes the distance and clinches up with Irvin, looking for a takedown. Franklin pushes Irvin against the cage but Irvin circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Paul Irvin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Buddy Franklin.
That's one minute gone in the round. Franklin fails with an attempt to clinch.
Franklin fails with a takedown attempt. Franklin shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Irvin appears to be looking for a counter takedown. Nice sprawl there from Irvin as Franklin shoots in. As Franklin looks to move away, Irvin throws a big counter combo but Franklin just gets out of the way. Irvin throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Irvin swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Irvin throws a right hand that Franklin ducks under and follows up with a left that Franklin also avoids with ease. Franklin looks like he wants to counter punch here. Sloppy strikes from Irvin. Those never looked like landing. Franklin drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Irvin throws Franklin to one side and escapes! We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Irvin throws a right hand that Franklin ducks under and follows up with a left that Franklin also avoids with ease. Franklin feints the counter takedown. Irvin defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Franklin. Irvin drops down looking for a counter takedown but Franklin sprawls and moves away. A punch combination from Irvin misses.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Irvin throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Franklin. Franklin misses with a takedown and Irvin counters with a single leg into guard. Franklin didn't expect that. Irvin stands over his opponent and dives in with a flying punch! Franklin throws up his legs and catches Irvin in a triangle! Oh this looks tight! Irvin tries to escape but he's forced to tap! Wow, fantastic work there by Franklin! That came out of nowhere!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:51 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Buddy Franklin! A less than humble Buddy Franklin misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
