PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Thip Top (ranked 2855 p4p, 270 weight class) and Jason Arlington (ranked 2540 p4p, 242 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Arlington's choice of entrance music: Unchained Melody. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Thip Top!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 2, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jason Arlington!
The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, William Gold and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A punch combination from Top misses.
Arlington wants to counter with a clinch but Top pushes him away.
Top misses with an uppercut.
A combination from Top does no damage.
Arlington tries to counter by closing the distance.
Thip Top seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A looping hook to the body misses from Top. Arlington does a little dance to reset his feet.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Top lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Arlington has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Arlington and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Top tries to clinch up but Arlington circles away and keeps his distance.
Top swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Arlington decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Top's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Top pulls Arlington in close to prevent any damage.
Arlington trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Top's coaches at JAG Battle Gym have been working on his defensive grappling in preparation for this fight so let's see if he can get out of this tricky position.
Top is trying to maintain the position but Arlington is very close to passing his half guard.

Arlington stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Top swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Arlington is pushing down on Top's leg trying to pass to half guard. Top is fighting to maintain full guard but Arlington has managed to sneak the leg through.
Arlington moves into full mount! Top won't be happy about that!
Top is trying to reverse the position but instead Arlington has taken his back - oops!
Top takes a big shot to the side of the head.
Arlington has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Top is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Arlington gets his way!
I would not like to be Top right now.
Arlington tries to get the hooks in deep but Top pushed the leg off.
Arlington throws a big right hand but he misses and hits the mat. Ouch.

Arlington is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Arlington has his foot on Top's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Top works his way back into a safe position though.

Arlington stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Arlington wants it to stay on the feet.

Horrible takedown attempt by Top or perhaps it was just good defense by Arlington, which made it look bad.
Top changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Arlington tries to avoid it but Top manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Arlington to the ground. Arlington escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Arlington misses with a hook. Top ducked under it nicely.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Jason Arlington showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

No joy there for Top, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Arlington looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Top has picked Arlington up and slammed him! Arlington can't keep hold of the triangle and Top manages to pass to side control!

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Thip Top.
Well Arlington has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
