PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Cobweb Cooter (ranked 1773 p4p, 186 weight class) and Nando Vasquez (ranked 2508 p4p, 238 weight class). Cooter comes to the cage accompanied by Porch Honky. Nando Vasquez told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Cobweb Cooter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Nando Vasquez!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, Chris Edwards and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cooter feints a jab promting Vasquez to slip. Cooter then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Vasquez slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Vasquez misses with a kick to the body.
Cooter feinted with a counter takedown.
Cooter lands the left hand.
Vasquez slips under a jab from Cooter.
Cooter moves out of range of the body kick from Vasquez.
Cooter has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Malmi Aitta in the buildup to the fight.
Cooter avoids a punch combination nicely.
Cooter is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Cooter just misses with a punch to the body.
Vasquez moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.


It looks like Cobweb Cooter has been cut.
Vasquez lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Vasquez scores with a leg kick.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Vasquez throws a sloppy head kick and Cooter moves out of range easily.

Cooter working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Cooter throwing strikes from guard but Vasquez blocks nicely.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Cooter is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Vasquez keeping full guard, as Cooter tries to pass.
Cooter throws a big right hand that misses.
Vasquez trying to keep a closed guard but Cooter is proving a slippery customer.
Cooter controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Vasquez keeping moving, preventing Cooter from controlling successfully.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Cooter pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Vasquez is keeping the position for now.
Cooter stands and throws Vasquez's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Vasquez is trying to get back to half guard.
Vasquez parries the strikes from Cooter easily there. Cooter is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Vasquez to escape.
Cooter is putting a hurting on Vasquez here, landing some big shots from side control.
The ground and pound from Cooter seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Cooter wants to control but Vasquez is keeping him busy.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Cooter throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.

Cooter sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Vasquez is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.

Vasquez parries the strikes from Cooter easily there. Cooter is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Vasquez to escape.
Cooter scores with a couple of short elbows.


Vasquez is rocked!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Vasquez takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Vasquez is still in real trouble! Can Cooter finish him?
Cooter misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Vasquez tries to control but end up mounted... ooooh, that's bad.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Cooter postures up and connects with a big shot that has rocked Vasquez badly. He's trying desperately to grab hold of Cooter around the waist but Cooter pushes him off and unloads with more strikes, forcing the referee to jump in and save him! Cooter is the winner by TKO! Cooter jumps onto the cage and shouts into the camera. "We did it momma!"

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:30 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Cobweb Cooter!
