Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Conor Gillpatrick! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Roddy Piper! The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, James Atkins and William Gold.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gillpatrick tries to clinch up but Piper circles away and keeps his distance. A jab-cross combination lands for Piper and sends Gillpatrick crashing to the mat! Piper follows him down to the mat - Gillpatrick regains half guard but he's not out of trouble yet!
Gillpatrick is rocked!
It looks like Conor Gillpatrick has been cut. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Piper in particular looking to stall. Oh Gillpatrick is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Piper really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gillpatrick. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Piper stands up and beckons Gillpatrick to join him on the feet. Gillpatrick shoots for a takedown but Piper saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Gillpatrick seems to have got his legs back now. Piper shoots in for a takedown and gets it, with a heavy slam. That will score well with the judges. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Gillpatrick keeping moving, preventing Piper from controlling successfully. Gillpatrick could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Piper slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Gillpatrick has his hands on Piper's head, controlling the position. Piper is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Gillpatrick is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Gillpatrick has escaped and now he's on top!
That's one minute gone in the round. Piper keeping full guard, as Gillpatrick tries to pass. Piper keeping moving, preventing Gillpatrick from controlling successfully. Gillpatrick slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Piper is trying to get back to half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Gillpatrick has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand. Piper fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Gillpatrick, pushing him back against the cage. Piper manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back. Piper looking to hit a scissor sweep but Gillpatrick is one step ahead there. Gillpatrick trying to control but Piper is working from the bottom. Gillpatrick passes easily into side control. Nice work. Gillpatrick is breathing heavily. Piper is trying to control Gillpatrick's posture but Gillpatrick avoids it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Piper tries to buck Gillpatrick off but Gillpatrick is having none of it. Gillpatrick looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Piper is avoiding damage well.
Piper is looking to regain half guard here but Gillpatrick keeps moving and retains side control. Gillpatrick is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Piper looks calm but he's in trouble here. Gillpatrick gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Piper is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Gillpatrick lets go of the hold and Piper can pop his arm back in it's socket.
