Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Abdul Wajid Zebramawi! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Marcos Correa! The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Paul Aken and Nard Betker.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! No luck with that takedown attempt from Correa. Zebramawi displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Correa. Correa tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Zebramawi swivels and escapes. Abdul Wajid Zebramawi has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Marcos Correa. Zebramawi shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Correa napping and manages to drive through into side control! Zebramawi misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Correa takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better. Correa sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard. Zebramawi lands strikes from half guard. Correa looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Zebramawi lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Correa avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Zebramawi. This has been an exciting period of action! Zebramawi slips a nice elbow through Correa's hands, connecting with Correa's forehead. Zebramawi thows a huge punch but Correa dodges it nicely.

Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground! Zebramawi looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Correa with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Zebramawi throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. We've been hearing that Zebramawi has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish. Zebramawi lands with a punch from half guard. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Correa is looking for a triangle but Zebramawi pushes his legs off easily.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Zebramawi lands a couple of decent looking shots. Zebramawi loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Zebramawi has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Correa to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Zebramawi is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Correa pulls down on the head and he's put Zebramawi to sleep! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:26 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Marcos Correa! Marcos Correa took his opportunity to call for a title shot in his post fight interview.
