PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Shintaro Nomo (ranked 3296 p4p, 0 weight class) and Aramis Knox (ranked 5168 p4p, 0 weight class). Knox is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: You're Going Down | Sick Puppies. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 37 - 16 - 1, fighting out of London, Shintaro Nomo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Aramis Knox!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, Andrew Berry and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nomo looks to land a left hand but Knox moved out of range nicely.
Nomo moves out of range of the strikes.
Nomo misses with the combination.
Knox ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Nomo moves away.
Knox throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Knox throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Knox swings for the body but Nomo moves out of range.
Knox takes a swing at Nomo's ribcage but misses.
Knox's coach down at ~T~ Troid - Gym was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Knox's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Nomo slips a jab from Knox.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Nomo throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Knox sees it coming and avoids it easily.

Knox loads up on a big right hand but Nomo slips the punch.

Nomo throws out a leg kick but Knox moves out of range and Nomo only half commits.
Knox fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Nomo manages to avoid it.
Knox bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Knox tries to close the distance and clinch up but Nomo swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Knox looks to score with a jab to the body but Nomo is just out of range.
Knox throws the left hand but Nomo avoids the punch easily.
Knox just misses with a punch to the body.
Knox misses with an uppercut. Nomo saw that one coming.
Knox wants to clinch
and Nomo counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Knox lands a jab to the nose.
Nomo doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Nomo with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Knox to score with a decent uppercut.
Nomo throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.

Aramis Knox is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Nomo lands with an uppercut that bounces Knox off the cage and back into range.
Nomo punishes Knox's body with a nice straight punch.
Knox fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Knox ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Nomo moves away.
Knox uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Nomo.
Nomo feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Knoxs jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

A looping hook to the body misses from Knox. Nomo does a little dance to reset his feet.

Nomo bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Knox's head backwards.
Nomo cracks Knox with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Knox looks to land a right hand but Nomo moved out of range.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

It looks like Aramis Knox has been cut.
Knox wants to clinch but Nomo slips to the side
and Nomo counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Knox throws a body shot but no joy.
It looked like Nomo wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Nomo is looking to chop away at Knox's legs.
Knox misses with a straight right.
Knox jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Nomo ducks under a wild hook from Knox.
Knox takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.

Nomo had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Knox defends it easily.

Nomo is pulling down on Knox's head to control his posture.
Knox must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Nomo has control of Knox's left arm, preventing Knox from doing any damage.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Horrible takedown attempt by Nomo or perhaps it was just good defense by Knox, which made it look bad.

Nomo bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Knox is trying to control Nomo's posture but Nomo avoids it.
Knox tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Nomo wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Knox is trying to work for a sweep but Nomo has mounted him!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Nomo misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Knox tries to lock up and control but Nomo gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Nomo has control of Knox's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Knox regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Well Nomo has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
