The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Poulin tries to clinch up.

Poulin rushes Townsend and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Townsend really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Poulin manages to break the clinch.

Townsend closes the distance and pushes Poulin back into the cage.
Poulin effectively controlling the action here.
Poulin stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.
Townsend tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Poulin just stands there and leans against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Poulin tries to work over Townsend's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Townsend wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Poulin has him pressed against the cage.

Townsend trying to keep a closed guard but Poulin is proving a slippery customer.
Townsend will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Townsend is on top in guard.

Poulin is looking to stand back up but Townsend counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Poulin.
Poulin is looking to get back to is feet but Townsend passes into side control.
Poulin is trying to buck Townsend off.

Townsend remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Townsend decides to stand back up. Townsend steps back and let's Poulin get back to his feet.

Poulin bucks up and tries to throw Townsend off but instead Townsend has got his back!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Townsend tries to keep control of the position but Poulin is staying busy.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Poulin is trying to get back to his feet but Townsend has full control of the position and if anything, Poulin has just worked his way into a worse spot.
Townsend slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Townsend shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Poulin defends it nicely.

Townsend jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Poulin walks away with a smile on his face. Townsend gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Poulin lands an elbow inside that Townsend shrugs off.
