Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
22 - 22 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Lewis Rampage! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
18 - 21 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Steve Lucas! The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Lucas shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Rampage sprawls well. Rampage wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Lucas gets slowly back to his feet. Lucas lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Lucas. Lucas dives in for a single leg takedown but Rampage sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. Lucas lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Rampage circles away quickly and effectively. Horrible takedown attempt by Lucas or perhaps it was just good defense by Rampage, which made it look bad. Lewis Rampage has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Steve Lucas. Lucas scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Rampage gets full guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Lucas postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Rampage avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Rampage on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Rampage tries to get out of the position. Lucas is fighting to break Rampage's control of his arms but Rampage is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
That's one minute gone in the round. Lucas trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Lucas loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Lucas throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Lucas landing some decent shots from guard. Rampage working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Lucas. Lucas postures up.
Lucas postures up in Rampage's guard and throws a big left but Rampage blocks it. Rampage working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Lucas. Lucas throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Lucas throws a big right hand that misses.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Lucas throwing strikes but missing. Lucas is stalling in the full guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. It looks like Lucas might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Rampage tries to clinch up. Lucas scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Rampage on the wrong end of some ground and pound. Rampage is looking to regain half guard here but Lucas keeps moving and retains side control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Lucas postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Lucas happy to just control the position for now. Lucas is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Rampage looks calm but he's in trouble here. Lucas gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Rampage is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Lucas lets go of the hold and Rampage can pop his arm back in it's socket.
