The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Daniel gets the takedown into side control. Germonsen pushes Daniel away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Daniel gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control. Daniel is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Germonsen has escaped the position, nice work there. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Germonsen defending against the ground and pound. We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Germonsen has eaten all the pies! Germonsen is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. Germonsen looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Daniel is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Germonsen is looking to control Daniel's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Germonsen avoid being mounted?
That's one minute gone in the round. Germonsen wants to get back to full guard. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Daniel connects with a nice short shot to Germonsen's temple. Daniel thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Germonsen is trying to get back to full guard. Germonsen blocking the ground and pound attempt from Daniel. Germonsen slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Daniel stops Germonsen from standing up. Germonsen working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Daniel. Germonsen seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Germonsen fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Daniel sprawls well initially but Germonsen persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Daniel looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Daniel wants to control but Germonsen passes into side.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Germonsen throwing strikes here but Daniel is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Daniel bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done! Daniel is looking to work some ground and pound but Germonsen has wrist control. Germonsen has momentary wrist control but Daniel slips an elbow through the middle. Germonsen working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Daniel. Daniel avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Daniel is in close to Germonsen's body, working some short punches and elbows. Daniel knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Germonsen on the ground. Daniel stopping the sweep attempt from Germonsen. Germonsen working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Daniel doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Germonsen is tightening it up a little... Daniel has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Daniel reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Daniel taps out! Nice BJJ there by Germonsen!
