PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Don Gotti (ranked 1552 p4p, 180 weight class) and Wilhelm Strauss (ranked 1821 p4p, 202 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Strauss's choice of entrance music: Root Of All Evil. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Wilhelm Strauss!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gotti doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Strauss counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Gotti is looking to take this one to the mat.
Strauss lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Strauss misses with the head strike.
Gotti changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Strauss fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Gotti closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Gotti has Strauss pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Gotti pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Strauss tumbling to the mat - Gotti dives into Strauss's guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Gotti stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Strauss swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Strauss wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Gotti seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Gotti has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Strauss is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Gotti stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Strauss swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Gotti definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

Gotti is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Gotti tries to pass to full mount but Strauss defends it.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gotti wants to pass the guard but Strauss is defending well.

Gotti is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Strauss is just riding it out for now. Gotti eventually gives up the hold.

Gotti is working for a submission of some sort.
Strauss moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Gotti wants to pass the guard but Strauss is keeping the position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Strauss wants to sweep here but Gotti controlling him for the moment.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Gotti is defended easily by Strauss.
Strauss swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Strauss lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Gotti shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Strauss sprawls well. Strauss wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Gotti gets slowly back to his feet.

Strauss circles away from the clinch attempt.
Gotti shoots in looking for a takedown. Strauss tries to sprawl out of it but Gotti keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Strauss manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Gotti dives in and grabs Strauss's left leg, looking for a takedown. Strauss pushes down on Gotti's head and hops out.
Gotti changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Strauss tries to avoid it but Gotti manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Strauss to the ground. Strauss escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Wilhelm Strauss seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Strauss displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Gotti.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Gotti is defended easily by Strauss.

Strauss sends Gotti crashing to the mat with a devastating uppercut! Strauss is motioning to the referee to let Gotti up. He wants to try and finish this one on the feet!

Gotti is rocked!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Both fighters step back and shake their arms out. Strauss engages and cracks Gotti with a massive lead left hook - Gotti tumbles to the floor, out cold! What a shot! Strauss is delighted - all that hard work in training paid off!
