Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Warner Pickett (ranked 7218 p4p, 0 weight class) and Riki Maru (ranked 3194 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Warner Pickett! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Riki Maru! The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Matheus Silva and Mauricio Rocha.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Pickett doesn't manage to clinch there - Maru circles away.
Maru looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight! Pickett fails in his attempt to clinch. Maru scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
It looks like Warner Pickett has been cut. Maru throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Maru throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Pickett. Pickett is looking to counter the offense by Maru and move into the clinch. Pickett avoids the body shot from Maru.
Pickett tries to clinch but Maru moves out of range. Maru gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Pickett to score an easy takedown into full guard. Pickett is standing up over Maru. Maru looks to escape but Pickett dives into side control.

That's one minute gone in the round. Pickett stands up and we're back to a striking position. Pickett pushes Maru up against the cage in a clinch. Pickett fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Pickett drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Maru gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Pickett pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Riki Maru is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Maru looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Pickett scores with a head kick.
Riki Maru seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Maru throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Pickett. Pickett dives in for a single leg takedown but Maru sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Warner Pickett. That's going to take a lot out of him.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Pickett closes the distance and pushes Maru back into the cage. Pickett escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Maru lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook. Pickett tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Maru manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. As Pickett backs off Maru throws a huge counter combo but Pickett manages to avoid it all. Pickett tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Maru swivels and escapes. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Maru looks to land a combination but Pickett avoids it well. Pickett closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Maru did well to prevent Pickett getting side control. Pickett looks to score some points with some ground and pound. Pickett is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. Pickett postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Maru to stand up. Pickett wants to clinch.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Pickett changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Maru looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Maru is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Pickett has just dragged him back down to the mat. Pickett remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while. Pickett trying to control the action but Maru is working from the bottom.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Pickett working the ground and pound from side control. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Pickett sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Maru is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.

That was a close round but I would say that Warner Pickett will probably get the nod. The cut man is working on Warner Pickett's cut. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Pickett gets slowly back to his feet. Maru looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. Maru throws a right hand that Pickett ducks under and follows up with a left that Pickett also avoids with ease. Pickett fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Maru ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Pickett moves away. Pickett clinches up with Maru and pushes him back against the cage. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Pickett has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Maru after a bit of a struggle. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Warner Pickett. That's going to take a lot out of him. Maru tries a body shot but Pickett blocks it.

Pickett turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Pickett manages to end up in side control. Pickett has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand. Nice takedown defense from Maru. No joy for Pickett on that attempt. Pickett tries to clinch up. Pickett is looking to clinch. Maru looks to land a combination but Pickett avoids it well. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Pickett. Pickett moves in looking to clinch but Maru pushes him off. Pickett keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Maru's efforts to push away. Pickett drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Maru gets the underhooks and prevents it.

That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Pickett is looking for a takedown. Maru lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Pickett circles away quickly and effectively. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Pickett shoots in for a takedown but Maru shows good takedown defense. Maru closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Maru tries to break free but Pickett pushes him back against the cage. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Riki Maru showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The cut man is working on Warner Pickett's cut. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. And we move into the final round!
Pickett fails with the takedown and Maru counters with a left to the body. Pickett shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Maru manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. Maru wants to stand but Pickett is controlling the position. Pickett trying to control the position from guard on top but Maru is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's one minute gone in the round. Maru wants to stand and escape but Pickett is having none of it. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Pickett keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Maru's head. Pickett cracks Maru with a solid left hand. Maru has momentary wrist control but Pickett slips an elbow through the middle. Pickett with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Pickett won't allow Maru to get back to his feet.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. Pickett looks for a takedown but Maru sprawls well. Riki Maru seems to be getting the better of the standup.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Pickett closes the distance and pushes Maru back into the cage. Pickett pulls guard. Pickett has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Maru can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Maru decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Pickett, up you get! Maru misses with a series of wild punches.

and Pickett holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Pickett has Maru pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Maru manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. Pickett has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Maru after a bit of a struggle. Maru escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Pickett feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Maru pushes Pickett off and scrambles back to his feet.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Pickett on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Maru scores with a nice right hand.

And that's the end of the fight! Riki Maru comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I think Maru has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
