Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jacob Obworth! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Geter Done! The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Eliza Hachem and John Mangel.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Done looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Obworth is fending him off so far but Done persists. Nope, Obworth circles away and we're back to standing. Done shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Obworth as he jumps to the side. Obworth looks to score with a jab to the body but Done is just out of range. Obworth swats away the attempt to clinch by Done. Obworth showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Done.
Done tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Done fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Obworth sprawls well initially but Done persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Obworth tries to get to full guard but Done has control of the leg. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Obworth is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Done's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Done's back!
That's one minute gone in the round. Done manages to reverse the position and now he's in Obworth's guard. Nice work there by Done.
Obworth is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Obworth works his foot free and advances to mount. Obworth misses with a head shot. Obworth working for a guillotine from mount but Done is in no mood to give up. Obworth looking to secure an arm triangle but Done defends it well. Obworth is in the full mount, landing strikes. Done is squirming around, avoiding Obworth's attempts to control the action. Done is looking to get to half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Obworth can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Done is looking to escape. Done is trying to escape the mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Obworth with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Done throwing punches from his back. He's mounted here but still fighting back. Done sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Obworth is thwarting Done's attempts to control the position. Obworth throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Obworth is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Done defends it well. Obworth is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Done has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Obworth is working away from the top position though. Obworth is pressing down on Done's thigh, looking to free his foot. Done is holding on for now. Done wants to get back to his feet. Obworth is looking to pass Done's guard but actually Done recovers to full guard. Obworth in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Obworth trying to control the position from guard on top but Done is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Done is trying to control the position but Obworth postures up. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Done moves in looking to clinch but Obworth pushes him off. Obworth darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Done actively working from the bottom here. Obworth is thwarting Done's attempts to control the position. Obworth is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jacob Obworth dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Done tries to close the distance and clinch up but Obworth swats him away and circles back towards the center. Done with a poor takedown and Obworth counters with a single leg into guard. Done didn't expect that. Obworth stands and throws Done's legs to the side, diving into side control. Done pushes Obworth away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Obworth gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control. Done tries to improve position but can't. Obworth swings around for an armbar but Done sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Obworth's guard. Obworth keeping moving, preventing Done from controlling successfully. Obworth trying to control the position.
Done drops back looking for a leg! Obworth is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Obworth manages to kick Done off! Done jumps back into Obworth's guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Obworth wants to sweep here but Done controlling him for the moment. Done is breathing heavily.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Obworth misses with a body shot.
Done with a lazy takedown attempt and Obworth counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Done's guard now. Obworth wants to control from the top but Done keeps moving. Obworth throwing strikes but missing. Obworth stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Done swivels though and keeps the full guard. Obworth slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Obworth thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Done can't do much from the bottom here. Obworth is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Done has escaped the position, nice work there. Obworth working the ground and pound but Done is defending the strikes. Jacob Obworth overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Obworth throwing strikes but missing, from side control. Done is looking to reverse the position. Jacob Obworth has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Geter Done. Obworth is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Done knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Done wants to control but Obworth postures up. Obworth is looking for a kimura. He might have it! He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Done tries to pass the half guard into mount. Obworth knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Obworth is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Done pulls his head out easily. Obworth has hold of a guillotine but he's not going to be able to crank on it really with only half guard, so it's no trouble for Done. Oh but Obworth has got full guard now! Oh boy! This one could be over very soon! Done goes limp - he's gone! Obworth jumps up and celebrates with the crowd - fantastic submission finish!
