Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jake Swick (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alex Rodriguez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Alex Rodriguez is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jake Swick!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Alex Rodriguez!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Hirohito Nitta and Tatsuya Matsuyama.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rodriguez looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Alex Rodriguez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Swick keeps the fight on the outside.

Rodriguez gets a takedown into half guard.
Swick moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Swick working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Rodriguez doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Rodriguez manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Rodriguez really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Swick. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Swick wants to sweep here but Rodriguez controlling him for the moment.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Swick holds on and takes a little breather.

Rodriguez trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Rodriguez drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Rodriguez jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Rodriguez must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Swick wants to stand up but Rodriguez is controlling him.
Swick pulls Rodriguez in close to prevent any damage.
Swick manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Swick tries to push Rodriguez's head away but Rodriguez is holding on tight.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Rodriguez tries to reverse the position but Swick maintains control.

Swick is working for a guillotine from mount but Rodriguez frees his head quite easily.

Swick is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Rodriguez can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Swick trying to control but Rodriguez is having none of it.

Swick with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Swick stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.
Swick misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Rodriguez tries to close the distance and clinch but Swick swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Swick tries a head kick but it misses.
Rodriguez throws a nice outside leg kick.
Swick shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Rodriguez counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Rodriguez.
Swick is breathing heavily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Rodriguez tries to stand but Swick is controlling from the bottom.
Swick is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Swick is working for a submission of some sort.
Swick wants to lay and pray for a moment but Rodriguez keeps working.

Swick is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Rodriguez doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Swick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Jake Swick will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Swick avoids the head kick by Rodriguez.
Rodriguez fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Swick shoots in but no luck this time.

and Rodriguez counters with a shoot takedown. Swick fights it but they end up in guard.
Swick is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Rodriguez is controlling him.

Swick has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Rodriguez can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Rodriguez wants to stand but Swick is controlling his posture from full guard.

Swick looking for a triangle here. Rodriguez is fighting it but it looks tight! Swick pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Rodriguez is tapping out - this one is all over!
