PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jorge Vidal (ranked 4471 p4p, 431 weight class) and Jerome Winn (ranked 5553 p4p, 478 weight class). Vidal comes to the cage accompanied by Scarface OST - The world is yours. Winn has chosen Coolio - Gangsta's Paradise as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Jerome Winn has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Jorge Vidal's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jorge Vidal!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jerome Winn!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Alyssa Summers and Bruno Lombardi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Winn misses with a lunging right hand
and Winn takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Winn shoots in and gets a takedown into Vidal's guard.
Vidal trying to keep a closed guard but Winn is proving a slippery customer.
Vidal tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Vidal wants to control the position but Winn says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Winn looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Vidal is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at Doom's Gym that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.

Vidal moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Vidal is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Winn is aware though and is defending well.
Winn is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Vidal is looking to stand up but Winn isn't so interested in that idea.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Jorge Vidal is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Winn closes this distance looking for a takedown but Vidal circles away.
Winn has a takedown stuffed.
Vidal throws a right hand that Winn ducks under and follows up with a left that Winn also avoids with ease.
Winn changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Vidal misses with a jab, cross combination.
Winn swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Vidal fails in his attempt to clinch.

Winn drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Vidal wants to get back to his feet but Winn is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Vidal is looking to stand up but Winn isn't so interested in that idea.
Winn controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
It looks like Winn might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Vidal working for a triangle but Winn defends it easily.
Winn is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Jorge Vidal will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Vidal throws a series of punches but Winn moves out of range.
Vidal throws a right and a left that Winn avoids nicely.
Winn drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Vidal defends it well.
Vidal throws a one two combo.
Vidal lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Winn at a distance.
Vidal lunges at Winn with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Winn's hand.

and Vidal counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Jorge Vidal is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Vidal lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Vidal.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Winn doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Vidal counters with a left and a right that stings Winn.

Winn takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Vidal doesn't manage to clinch there - Winn circles away.
Winn looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.

Winn closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Vidal is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Winn pulls his head out easily.
Vidal is looking to control Winn's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Vidal avoid being mounted?
Winn really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Vidal. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Winn misses with a takedown attempt
and Vidal connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Winn's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Vidal connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Winn scrambles back to his feet.

Winn bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Vidal tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.
Winn takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Vidal moves into range and connects with a jab.

Vidal shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Winn eats them both and turns towards Vidal to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Winn swings wildly with an uppercut but Vidal uses good head movement to avoid it.
The referee is keeping an eye on Winn - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

Winn tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Vidal just stands there and leans against the cage.

Winn jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Vidal walks away with a smile on his face. Winn gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Winn closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Vidal is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Winn is controlling him well.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Vidal, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
