The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hanson gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Akiyama to score an easy takedown into full guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hanson wants to stand but Akiyama is controlling the position.
Akiyama throws a big elbow that misses.

Akiyama makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Hanson wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Akiyama is now in half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hanson wants to improve his position but Akiyama is controlling well.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Hanson tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Nice takedown defense from Akiyama. No joy for Hanson on that attempt.
Akiyama shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Akiyama was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Akiyama wants to stand but Hanson is controlling his arm.

Hanson is working to avoid the ground and pound but Akiyama connects with a decent elbow.
Akiyama passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Hanson!
Hanson tries to hold on but Akiyama postures up.

Hanson takes a big shot to the dome and his eyes have rolled back in his head! Akiyama's killer instinct has kicked in as he finishes the fight with more strikes. Impressive finish.
