PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Bj Pent (ranked 4432 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ken Specht (ranked 6245 p4p, 0 weight class). Specht has chosen blablabla as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Ken Specht is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Bj Pent!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ken Specht!
The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Sosuke Kotani and Yukihiro Yamamoto.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Specht fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Pent shoots in and gets a takedown into Specht's guard.
Pent seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pent throwing strikes from guard but Specht blocks nicely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Specht is working an open guard so Pent takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
The fight stays on the outside here - Specht looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Specht leaves Pent with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Specht changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Pent throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Specht blocks a head kick by Pent.
Pent changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Specht tries to avoid it but Pent manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Specht to the ground. Specht escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Specht doesn't manage to clinch there - Pent circles away.

Pent has taken the fight to the clinch.
Specht looking to slow down the pace here.
Pent jumps guard but Specht stands there with Pent around his waist. Pent gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bj Pent. That's going to take a lot out of him.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Pent.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Pent fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Specht lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
Pent taking a breather.

Specht jumps guard and drags Pent to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Specht being controlled here, momentarily.
Pent is breathing heavily.
Pent trying to control but Specht is working from the bottom.
Pent throws a big right hand that misses.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Pent pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Specht is keeping the position for now.
Specht wants to stand but Pent is controlling the position.
Pent trying to control the position from guard on top but Specht is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Specht pushes Pent off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Pent slaps away a takedown attempt from Specht, before circling back to the center of the mat.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Specht scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Specht fails with the takedown.
Specht has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Pent is landing a low percentage of strikes.
Specht lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Specht tries to score a power double leg takedown but Pent sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Specht somewhat.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Specht fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Pent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Ken Specht will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Specht tries to keep at a distance but Pent has taken the fight into the clinch.
Pent has Specht pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Specht manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Pent pulls guard effortlessly.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Specht accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Pent is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Specht has his hands clasped together but Pent extends and breaks Specht's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Pent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:44 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Bj Pent!
