Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Madik MBaku (ranked 1087 p4p, 138 weight class) and Jose Romero (ranked 1044 p4p, 131 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Madik MBaku!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jose Romero!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, James Glass and Donald Grub.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
MBaku misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Romero.
Romero takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.

It looked like MBaku was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.

MBaku is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at Hare of the Dog Gym that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.

Romero is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and MBaku defends it well.

The fighters are battling for position here. MBaku manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
MBaku is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

MBaku has his foot on Romero's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Romero works his way back into a safe position though.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Romero throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent MBaku stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

MBaku shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Romero is trying to defend but MBaku finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
MBaku stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Romero swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Romero shoots for a double leg takedown but MBaku sprawls well. He's pushed Romero's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Romero is clearly trying to counter these attacks from MBaku with a body shot.

As Romero looks to move away, MBaku throws a big counter combo but Romero just gets out of the way.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Madik MBaku.
I think MBaku has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
