Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Cruz Price! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jonah Monteiro! The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Columbo Gatti and John Roberts.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Monteiro decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Monteiro is keen to just control but Price is a slippery customer. Monteiro thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Price's head. Monteiro takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Monteiro's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. Monteiro missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Monteiro lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. Monteiro trying to control from half guard but Price is working away. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Price regains full guard. Nicely done. Monteiro trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Price looking for a sweep. Not yet Price, not yet. Monteiro sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Price's guard. Monteiro scoring with strikes to the body and head. Monteiro is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. Monteiro content to control rather than advance. It looks like Monteiro might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. Monteiro passes to full mount! Monteiro trying to control but Price is having none of it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Monteiro takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Monteiro unloading with bombs!
Price is rocked! Monteiro controlling his opponent. Oh Price is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Monteiro connects with a bit shot that sees Price covering up! More strikes from Monteiro and the referee jumps in to stop the fight! Monteiro is our winner by TKO!
