Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Hoyt Obrien! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mikal Reddick! The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Paulo Santos and Daniel Cesar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Obrien forces Reddick back against the cage and clinches. Reddick looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight! Obrien manages to pull guard.
Obrien wants to stand but Reddick is controlling the position. Obrien bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Reddick's guard. Obrien slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Obrien decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. Reddick darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Reddick prevents Obrien from improving his position. Obrien knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Reddick on the ground. Obrien is doing well to control the position and prevent Reddick from advancing to side control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Reddick is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Obrien defends it well. Reddick prevents Obrien from improving his position. Obrien really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Obrien slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Obrien manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Reddick manages to get himself to full guard.
Reddick had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Obrien defends it easily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Reddick avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Obrien's corner is telling him to maintain position. Reddick has a closed guard, preventing Obrien from standing up.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Obrien controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Obrien stands up from Reddick's guard - Obrien perhaps looking for a knockout. Obrien bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Reddick shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Obrien napping and manages to drive through into side control! Obrien struggling a bit here. Obrien is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Reddick is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. Obrien is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Reddick is one step ahead and moves to full mount! Reddick has control of Obrien's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Obrien regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Hoyt Obrien dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Obrien gets tackled into the cage by Reddick. Reddick maintains the clinch. Obrien lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards. A head punch on the inside from Obrien fails to land. Reddick manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back. Obrien will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Obrien controlling from the top position. Obrien makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Obrien is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Obrien has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Obrien scoring with some ground and pound. Reddick is breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Obrien got a little sloppy there for a moment and Reddick has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Obrien has managed to get both his arms back between Reddick's legs - danger averted. Reddick is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Reddick can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Obrien controls the pace.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Obrien has managed to clinch.
Obrien misses with a knee to the head. With the fighters clinched against the cage, Obrien creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut. Obrien turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control! Obrien working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Reddick gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Obrien is figuring out what he wants to do next. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Obrien is keen to just control but Reddick is a slippery customer. Reddick looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Obrien controlling the action here. Obrien is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Reddick can do to turn this around?
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Obrien has decided to stand back up but his arm is trapped. Whilst he's worrying about his arm, Reddick works to full guard. Obrien looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Hoyt Obrien dominated that second round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!
Obrien throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Mikal Reddick seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Reddick takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Reddick closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Obrien can't do much from the bottom here. Obrien is looking to regain half guard here but Reddick keeps moving and retains side control. Obrien can't do much from the bottom here. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Obrien is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Reddick's leg. He's managed it. Nice work. Obrien keeping hold of Reddick's head, controlling as best he can. Hoyt Obrien overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Reddick is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Obrien is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Reddick jumps into side control!

Obrien struggling a bit here. Obrien tries to buck Reddick off but Reddick is having none of it. Reddick is trying to get an arm triangle but Obrien is defending well. Obrien is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Obrien is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Reddick's leg. He's managed it. Nice work. Obrien wants to get back to full guard. Obrien wants to control but Reddick is keeping busy and won't allow it.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Reddick is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Obrien stays in close to Reddick's body and controls the position. Reddick has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Obrien can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Obrien is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
And that's the end of the fight! Mikal Reddick comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Obrien has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
