Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Emmanuel Duffy! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Joao Miguel! The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Leandro Rodrigues and Edson Gomes.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Miguel shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Duffy manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. Duffy has his hands on Miguel's head, controlling the position. Miguel trying to stand up but can't free himself from Duffy's guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Miguel stands and steps away. Duffy gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Miguel changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Duffy looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
That's one minute gone in the round. Duffy struggling a bit here. Duffy is trying to get back to half guard. Miguel stands up and beckons Duffy to his feet. A momentary lapse in concentration from Duffy enables Miguel to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Duffy manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Duffy is trying to control the position but Miguel postures up.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Miguel stands up from Duffy's guard - Miguel perhaps looking for a knockout. Miguel closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Miguel lands in his opponent's guard. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Duffy working for a triangle but Miguel defends it easily.
Miguel decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Miguel looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Duffy is trying to escape back to his feet but Miguel uses the scramble to pass into side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Duffy tries to improve position but can't. Duffy wants to get back to his feet but Miguel drags him back down. Miguel decides to stand back up. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Miguel scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Duffy sneaks out the side door and pushes Miguel away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Joao Miguel dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Miguel shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Miguel prevents Duffy from improving his position. Duffy really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Joao Miguel has got the better of the ground game so far. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Miguel off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds. Duffy tries to sprawl but Miguel drives through with a takedown into half guard. Miguel decides to stand up. Miguel looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Miguel is breathing heavily. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Duffy looking to control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Duffy looking for a sweep. Not yet Duffy, not yet. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Duffy holds on and takes a little breather. Duffy working a defensive guard here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Duffy has a closed guard, preventing Miguel from standing up.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Duffy is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Miguel defends well. Miguel wants to stand but Duffy has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Miguel drives through with a takedown into guard. Duffy manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Miguel decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Duffy pushes Miguel off and gets back to his feet. Nice takedown defense from Miguel. No joy for Duffy on that attempt. Miguel closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Duffy to the mat! Duffy manages to get full guard. Miguel stopping the sweep attempt from Duffy. Duffy is trying to keep Miguel in close.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Emmanuel Duffy dominated that second round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!
Miguel drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Miguel stands up and beckons Duffy to his feet. Miguel stuffs the takedown attempt from Duffy. Duffy gets slowly back to his feet. Miguel darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Miguel takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Duffy wants to control but Miguel is keeping busy.
That's one minute gone in the round. Miguel stands up out of the half guard. Miguel is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Duffy's half guard. Duffy punching from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Miguel postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Duffy to stand up. Miguel scores with a takedown into Duffy's guard. Miguel wants to stand but Duffy has a closed guard, so he can't escape. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Duffy controlling Miguel's posture. Duffy looking to hit a scissor sweep but Miguel is one step ahead there. Miguel decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Duffy shoots in and drives through. Miguel sprawls well. Miguel shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Duffy napping and manages to drive through into side control! Duffy sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard. Miguel tries to stand and escape but Duffy actually recovers to full guard. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Duffy wants to stand but Miguel is controlling the position.
And that's the end of the fight! Joao Miguel comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Miguel has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
