Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between French Fried (ranked 1757 p4p, 184 weight class) and Ivan Volkov (ranked 481 p4p, 59 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, French Fried!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ivan Volkov!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Tiny Johnson and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fried looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Volkov tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Fried defends well and Volkov ends up having to push Fried into the ropes where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Fried went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Fried fails to land with a series of punches.
Decent striking displayed by Volkov there.
Fried displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Volkov.
Fried lifts his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.
Volkov clobbers Fried with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.

Volkov connects with a jab.
A nice combination there by Fried.


It looks like Ivan Volkov has been cut.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Volkov cracks a nice hook into Fried's ribs.
Volkov lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Volkov scores with a three punch combo!
Fried takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Fried leaves Volkov with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
French Fried has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ivan Volkov.
Volkov works the jab nicely.
Volkov closes this distance looking for a takedown but Fried circles away.
Volkov lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
French Fried is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Volkov cracks Fried with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Volkov changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Fried tries to land a body kick

and Volkov counters with a single leg into guard. Fried didn't expect that.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Volkov trying to control the position from guard on top but Fried is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Volkov tries to free his leg and advance position but Fried is retaining full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Fried wants to stand but Volkov is controlling the position.
Volkov trying to control but Fried is working from the bottom.
Fried knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Volkov on the ground.
Volkov passes Fried's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Volkov trying to control from half guard but Fried is working away.

Volkov is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Fried is just riding it out for now. Volkov eventually gives up the hold.

Volkov is working for a kimura from half guard. He's really concentrating on the hold and it's allowed Fried to slip a leg under and get back to full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Volkov pushes down on Fried's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Volkov is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Fried defends it well.
Volkov works his way into side control.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Volkov wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Fried, who protects the arm well.

Volkov is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Fried has escaped the position, nice work there.

Volkov is working to tighten his grip on Fried's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Fried has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Volkov is really squeezing tight and eventually Fried passes out! Volkov breaks the hold and jumps onto the ropes to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:47 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Ivan Volkov! Ivan Volkov retains his featherweight title!
