PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gabriel Arones (ranked 1023 p4p, 44 weight class) and Yhorm Giant (ranked 1768 p4p, 76 weight class). Arones's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Lonely is the night. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Yhorm Giant!
The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, Reed Andrews and Steve Montenegro.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Giant on the wrong end of a nice hook.

It looks like Yhorm Giant has been cut.
Giant will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Giant uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Arones.
Arones avoids the body shot from Giant.
Arones takes one on the button.

It looks like Gabriel Arones has been cut.
Giant thows a left - swing and a miss!
Giant finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Arones takes one on the chin but keeps coming.

Giant closes the distance and pushes Arones back into the cage.

Arones has clasped his hands together around Giant's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Giant felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Arones tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

Arones is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Giant is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Arones tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Arones seems to be looking for submissions.

Arones is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

Arones wants to finish this one by submission but Giant is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Arones.

Arones has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.

Giant is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Arones gets his way!

Arones has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Giant has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

What can Giant do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!
You can see the frustration on Giant's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Arones is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Giant defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.

Arones sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.

Giant has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Giant slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Giant decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Arones, up you get!

Arones shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Arones is trying to control. Giant wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Giant is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Arones's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Arones's back!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Arones breaks Giant's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Giant has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Arones pushes down on Giant's leg and manages to get into half guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Giant is doing well to control the position and prevent Arones from advancing to side control.

Yhorm Giant showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Good leg kick by Giant there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Giant throws a low kick but it's checked well by Arones.
Arones takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Giant loads up on a big right hand but Arones slips the punch.
Giant is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
Arones bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Giant's head backwards.
Arones misses with a straight left.
Giant misses with a head kick.
Arones tries to counter with a takedown but Giant is quick to defend against it.

Arones moves into range and clinches up with Giant.
Giant cracks Arones with a nice body shot.
Arones's legs have taken a beating and he's really slowing down as a result.

Giant lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Arones backwards.
Arones presses Giant against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.
Giant throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Aroness head.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Arones dodges an elbow strike from Giant.
Arones is working for takedown but Giant is calmly controlling the position for now.
Giant is leaning against Arones and scores with a nice uppercut to the body.
Giant lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.

Giant breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Arones ducks straight into an uppercut from Giant and tumbles to the canvas! It’s a flash knockdown though - Arones manages to regain guard straight away.

Gabriel Arones's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.

Giant gets to his feet and stands over Arones, holding his ankles. He dives in with a big left hand that connects! Arones felt that one! Giant unloads more punches and elbows and this one is over! The ref has dived in to save Arones from any more punishment!

A less than humble Yhorm Giant misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
