Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Carey Guthrie! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jesus Christ! The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Chris Downing and Tiny Johnson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Guthrie shoots for a takedown but Christ saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Guthrie shoots in looking for a takedown but Christ manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Guthrie's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Guthrie closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Christ did well to prevent Guthrie getting side control. Christ tries to get to full guard but Guthrie has control of the leg. Guthrie trying to control from Christ's half guard. Christ has other ideas though and has regained full guard. Guthrie knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Christ on the ground. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Christ pulls Guthrie in close to his closed guard and prevents Guthrie from doing any damage or advancing position. Christ escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Guthrie gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Christ looking to hit a scissor sweep but Guthrie is one step ahead there. Guthrie could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Christ is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Christ escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Guthrie gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Guthrie trying to control the position from guard on top but Christ is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Christ throws a head kick that misses and Guthrie counters with a left and a right that stings Christ. Guthrie shoots in for a takedown but Christ shows good takedown defense. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Carey Guthrie. That's going to take a lot out of him. Christ throws a low kick, looking for Guthrie's leg but Guthrie calmly moves out of range. Christ throws out a loose jab but Guthrie uses good head movement to avoid it. Guthrie tries to counter with a takedown but Christ is quick to defend against it. Christ gets a takedown into half guard. Guthrie wants to stand back up but Christ manages to pass into side control.
My spies in Cozad MMA Las Vegas inform me that Christ has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!
That's three minutes gone in the round. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Christ is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Guthrie's shoulder. That is not cool. Christ working the ground and pound.
It looks like Carey Guthrie has been cut. Christ in side control, just content to control the action for now. Christ tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Guthrie looks to move to half guard but instead Christ has passed into mount! Damn! Christ tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Guthrie looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back! Guthrie trying to get back to his feet but Christ is in full control for now. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Guthrie trying to control the hands but Christ won't let him. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jesus Christ dominated that round. The cut man is working on Carey Guthrie's cut. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Guthrie shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Christ sprawls well. Christ wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Guthrie gets slowly back to his feet. Guthrie shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Christ as he jumps to the side. Christ misses with a body kick. Christ has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Guthrie tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Christ defends well and Guthrie ends up having to push Christ into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Carey Guthrie. That's going to take a lot out of him. Guthrie fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Christ sprawls well initially but Guthrie persists and gets the takedown into half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Christ moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Christ wants to hit a switch here but Guthrie passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Christ there! Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Christ is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Christ sneaks a leg under to get to half guard. Christ throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
