The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kovacs scores with a one two! Asmundsen had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
It looks like Trond Asmundsen has been cut. Asmundsen shoots in and gets a takedown into Kovacs's guard. Kovacs trying to keep a closed guard but Asmundsen is proving a slippery customer.

Asmundsen stays in close to Kovacs's body and controls the position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Kovacs is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Asmundsen advances position into side control!

Nice work there by Kovacs! Asmundsen wants to control the position but Kovacs says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard. Kovacs trying to mount his opponent but Asmundsen defends it. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. The fighters are battling for position here. Asmundsen manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Asmundsen keeping moving, preventing Kovacs from controlling successfully. Asmundsen manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Kovacs felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Kovacs controlling the position for now. Asmundsen throwing shots but Kovacs is blocking nicely. Kovacs trying to control but Asmundsen postures up.
