PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Nikolay Nekrasov (ranked 4881 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ruben Mandore (ranked 20159 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Ruben Mandore was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mandore throws a series of punches but Nekrasov moves out of range.

Nekrasov shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Mandore's guard.
Nekrasov is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Nekrasov wants to control from the top but Mandore keeps moving.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Nekrasov's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Mandore trying to keep a closed guard but Nekrasov is proving a slippery customer.

Nekrasov drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Nekrasov jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mandore tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Mandore is trying to control the position but Nekrasov postures up.
Mandore is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Nekrasov sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Mandore's guard.
Nekrasov seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Mandore really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Nekrasov. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Nekrasov has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Nekrasov looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Mandore keeping control of the position.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Mandore can do anything to dispel that myth.

Mandore is defending against the submission attempts here by Nekrasov.
Mandore has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Nekrasov is working away from the top position though.

Nekrasov is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Mandore should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Nekrasov wants to take a breather but Mandore is having none of it.

Nekrasov wants to pass the guard but Mandore is defending well.

Nekrasov tries to pass the half guard into mount. Mandore knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Nekrasov will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Mandore tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.

Mandore decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Mandore is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Nekrasov holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
Nekrasov manages to get to full guard.
Mandore stands up over Nekrasov, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Nekrasov is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Mandore rolls with it to try and escape but Nekrasov cranks on the arm and Mandore is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
