PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Manny Garcia (ranked 3171 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chance Shamrock (ranked 4144 p4p, 407 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Chance Shamrock!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shamrock darts in and out, connecting with a jab.


It looks like Manny Garcia has been cut.
Shamrock looks to land a combination but Garcia avoids it well.
Garcia shoots in looking for a takedown. Shamrock tries to sprawl out of it but Garcia keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Shamrock manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Shamrock closes the distance and clinches.
Shamrock controlling the action here for a moment.
Garcia is looking to break free of the clinch but Shamrock has double underhooks.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Garcia pulls guard.
Garcia trying to keep a closed guard but Shamrock is proving a slippery customer.
Garcia wants to sweep here but Shamrock controlling him for the moment.

Shamrock slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Shamrock must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Shamrock is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Garcia is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Garcia has escaped and now he's on top!

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Shamrock tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Shamrock is striking but Garcia is not phased and passes to half guard.
Garcia wants to take a breather but Shamrock is having none of it.
Shamrock on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

Garcia stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

Shamrock gets to his feet. Garcia looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Garcia misses with a takedown attempt - Shamrock sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Shamrock stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Shamrock wants it to stay on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Manny Garcia. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Shamrock closes the distance and clinches.

Shamrock gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Shamrock engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Garcia holds on and takes a little breather.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Shamrock trying to control the position from guard on top but Garcia is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Shamrock has taken the fight to the clinch.

Shamrock has clasped his hands together around Garcia's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.

Shamrock decides to stand back up. Shamrock steps back and let's Garcia get back to his feet.
Garcia fails with the takedown.
Shamrock scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Garcia shoots in and drives through. Shamrock sprawls well.
Shamrock lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
Garcia tries to score a power double leg takedown but Shamrock sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Garcia somewhat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Manny Garcia. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Garcia looks to throw a body kick
and Shamrock counters with a straight right hand.
Shamrock lands a hook that stumbles Garcia back into the cage. Shamrock follows up with a straight and another hook that land right on the button, dropping Garcia to the canvas! Shamrock pounces and lands several unanswered shots - Garcia has had enough and taps out! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). Chance Shamrock!
