PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Welter Weight (ranked 997 p4p, 139 weight class) and Sebastian Edwards (ranked 1704 p4p, 221 weight class). Edwards has chosen Wishing Wells as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Welter Weight!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Sebastian Edwards!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Stewart Dunkirk and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Weight lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Edwards takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Weight misses with a combination
and Edwards connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.


It looks like Welter Weight has been cut.
Weight misses with a hook.
Edwards swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Weight misses with a few strikes there.
Welter Weight seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Weight, as that shot connected.
Edwards scores with a jab.


Weight is rocked!
Weight works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
A lazy body kick from Edwards
and Weight counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Edwards tries to close the distance and clinch but Weight swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
As Edwards tries to get set, Weight tries to push him back and clinch up but Edwards manages to avoid the attempt.

Edwards clinches up against the ropes.
Weight fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Edwards tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Edwards misses with a hook to the ribs.
Weight lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
I was talking to Weight's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Edwards tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Weight's elbow.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Weight lands a nice uppercut.
Weight lands on the inside with an uppercut.

Edwards breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Weight steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Edwards.
Edwards misses with an uppercut
and Weight counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Edwards walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Weight misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Edwards throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Weight counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.


Edwards is rocked!
Weight changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Edwards is still on wobbly legs! Can Weight finish him?
Edwards lands with a cross.
Edwards seems to have recovered his senses.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Edwards throws a big shot that misses.
Edwards's coach down at Pablo's Boxing Academy was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Edwards's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Weight fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Edwards on the side of the head.
Edwards slips a jab and a cross from Weight.
It seemed like Edwards was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
A swing and a miss from Edwards.
The fight stays on the outside here - Weight looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Weight wants to clinch up but Edwards keeps it at a distance.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Edwards! But no joy.
Edwards misses with a straight left.
Edwards might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Edwards connects with a right hand. Weight shakes it off.
Weight looks to land a left hand but Edwards moved out of range nicely.
A head kick by Edwards misses
and Weight cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Weight lands with a nice combination. Edwards backs away looking to recover.
Edwards jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Edwards looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Weight on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Weight misses with a left hand
enabling Edwards to counter with a crisp jab.
Weight is really peppering his opponent's head with punches.
Weight with a hook.

Edwards cracks Weight with a big right hand that sends him crashing to the floor. Edwards has the opportunity to follow him to the ground but instead he's beckoning Weight to stand back up!
Oh Weight is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Weight moves in looking to clinch but Edwards pushes him off.

Weight lands a big uppercut and Edwards crumbles to the floor! The ref thinks about stopping the fight but Edwards looks OK. Weight waves Edwards back to his feet!
Weight digs a good hook to Edwards's body.
Edwards looks to land a left hand but Weight moved out of range nicely.
Weight seems to have got his legs back now.
Weight steps in with a hook that catches Edwards right on the chin and knocks him to the floor! Weight follows him down with more strikes and that's all she wrote! Edwards looks absolutely devastated.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:23 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Welter Weight!
Welter Weight gave a mention to Urban Fighter in his post fight interview. That will please them (and hopefully generate some sales).
The defeated Sebastian Edwards had this to say: 'Hats off to my opponent. He executed his game plan perfectly. I need to go and refine mine. Thank you for this opportunity.'.
