Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Darrin Vaughn! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Mario Diaz! The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Steve Smith and Ian Loll.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Vaughn takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Diaz throws a head kick that misses. Vaughn fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Diaz lands a nice looking body shot.
Diaz connects with a body shot that sends Vaughn's belly button to the back. Diaz has managed to clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Diaz's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Diaz moves into range and connects with a jab. Diaz misses with a wild combination.
That's one minute gone in the round. Vaughn slips a straight right by Diaz. Vaughn is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Diaz. Diaz looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Vaughn seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance. Diaz takes the fight into the clinch. Diaz pulls guard effortlessly. Diaz pulls Vaughn in to control the position. Vaughn throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Vaughn stands and steps away. Diaz gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Vaughn fails with the takedown. Diaz has taken the fight to the clinch.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Vaughn prevents Diaz from breaking the clinch. Diaz works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.
Vaughn has Diaz pressed against the cage, preventing Diaz from circling away and getting back to striking at range. Vaughn is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Diaz is defending well. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Darrin Vaughn. That's going to take a lot out of him. Diaz wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. Vaughn manages to break the clinch.

Diaz catches Vaughn with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong! Diaz scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Vaughn doesn't seem bothered though. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Vaughn gets caught flat footed, as Diaz shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Diaz controlling from the top position. Oh Vaughn is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Diaz throws a big right hand that misses. Diaz throws a big elbow that misses. Diaz stays in close to Vaughn's body and controls the position. Diaz missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Diaz stands up and waves to Vaughn to follow him. Vaughn seems to have got his legs back now. Diaz ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Vaughn moves away. Vaughn tries to counter by clinching up but Diaz breaks away and moves out of range. Diaz gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Vaughn manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.

Vaughn gets caught flat footed, as Diaz shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Vaughn will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Vaughn wants to control the position but Diaz says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Vaughn trying to hold on to Diaz's head to control him but Diaz postures up.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Diaz keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. Vaughn keeping hold of Diaz's head, controlling as best he can. Diaz content to sit in half guard and control for a moment. Diaz is looking for a kimura here.

Mario Diaz dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
No luck for Vaughn with that takedown attempt. Diaz misses with the combination.
Diaz has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Diaz scores with a shot to the body.
Diaz misses the shot to the body. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Diaz gets in close and instigates a clinch. Diaz wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Diaz will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Vaughn up against the cage.
That's one minute gone in the round. The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Vaughn takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life. Vaughn's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Diaz lets his hands go wild with a nice combination. Left! Right! Uppercut! Spinning backfist! Vaughn goes down and covers up as Diaz starts wailing on him! The ref watches the action closely before stepping in and putting a stop to the fight!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:31 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Mario Diaz! Mario Diaz seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
