Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Warner Dean (ranked 24364 p4p, 0 weight class) and Forrest Griffin (ranked 7537 p4p, 0 weight class). Forrest Griffin will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Warner Dean!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Forrest Griffin!
The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Griffin bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Griffin decides to stand up, so the ref orders Dean to his feet.

Griffin throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Dean was covering up waiting for the punch and Griffin finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Griffin is looking to stand up but Dean won't let him.
Dean wants to sweep here but Griffin controlling him for the moment.
Griffin wanted to stand there but Dean had control of the position.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Dean has a closed guard, preventing Griffin from standing up.

Dean cracks Griffin with a solid left hand.

Griffin has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Dean can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Griffin is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Griffin isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Dean stacks Griffin on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Dean!
Griffin throws a couple of strikes even though he's not really in a good position to do so.
Dean is working Griffin over with some ground and pound from side control.

Dean is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Griffin has escaped the position, nice work there.

Griffin is not content to let Dean control the position.
Dean is really struggling to control Griffin but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Griffin is looking for a sweep.
Griffin keeps trying to improve his position.
Griffin looks to move to half guard but instead Dean has passed into mount! Damn!
Griffin tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Dean blocks Griffin's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.

Dean pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Griffin is trying to escape the mount.
Dean cracks Griffin with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Dean working the ground and pound effectively.
Griffin tries to reverse the position but Dean maintains control.
Dean with a couple of short strikes.
Dean prevents Griffin from getting the reversal.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Dean has control of Griffin's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Griffin regains control of the situation pretty easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Warner Dean will probably get the nod.
That's time! Back to the action!



Griffin feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Dean enables Griffin to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Dean manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Griffin is looking to stand up but Dean won't let him.

Dean is working an open guard so Griffin takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Griffin is breathing heavily.

Griffin closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Griffin lands in his opponent's guard.

Dean seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Griffin stands up and waves to Dean to follow him.

Griffin shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Dean's guard.

Griffin decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Griffin closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Dean's guard.

Griffin shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Dean is trying to defend but Griffin finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Forrest Griffin showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Dean throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Griffin's waist but Griffin gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Dean off to one side.

Dean gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Dean tries to score a power double leg takedown but Griffin sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Dean somewhat.

Griffin decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Dean, up you get!

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Dean is on top in guard.

I would just about give that final round to Forrest Griffin.
Well Griffin has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
