Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ted Chips (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rickson Paiva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Paiva is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: 2001 : Oddysey. Rickson Paiva has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Ted Chips's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ted Chips!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rickson Paiva!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Mauricio Rocha and Luis Engracia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Chips closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Chips is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Chips looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Paiva with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Chips shoots in for a double leg but Paiva sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

That was a close round but I would say that Ted Chips will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Chips fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Chips changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Paiva tries to avoid it but Chips manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Paiva to the ground. Paiva escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Paiva has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Chips can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
