PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between david abbott (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kevin Randleman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). abbott has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. Kevin Randleman has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with david abbott's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, david abbott!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Kevin Randleman!
The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Arvi Lind and Matti Vanhoillinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Randleman drives through with a takedown into guard.
abbott can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Randleman controls the pace.
Let's hope that Randleman has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
abbott is breathing heavily.
abbott has momentary wrist control but Randleman slips an elbow through the middle.
Randleman stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. abbott swivels though and keeps the full guard.
abbott might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Randleman passes into half guard.

Randleman is looking for a kimura here.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Randleman in particular looking to stall.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Nice strikes from Randleman there.
Randleman perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Randleman frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Randleman controlling the pace for now.
Randleman landing punches.
Randleman tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Randleman lands a heavy elbow.
Randleman scoring with strikes but abbott is staying in there.
abbott could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Randleman takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Despite being in the dominant position, Kevin Randleman just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Oooh a lovely combination from Randleman sends abbott down but not out. Randleman dives into side control looking to finish.


It looks like david abbott has been cut.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Randleman decides to stand back up. Randleman steps back and let's abbott get back to his feet.

Randleman shoots in for a takedown and gets it, with a heavy slam. That will score well with the judges.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Randleman decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on abbott, up you get!

Randleman has managed to clinch.

Randleman has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics abbott uses from the top position.
Randleman is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Randleman's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Randleman is on top in guard.

Randleman decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on abbott, up you get!

Randleman changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. abbott looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Randleman lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.

Randleman moves into the clinch.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Randleman breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Randleman throws a nice inside leg kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Randleman has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Randleman thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Randleman tightens his grip and picks abbott up, before dumping him to the ground. abbott manages to land in guard.

abbott is working an open guard so Randleman takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Randleman looks up at the clock and then as abbott takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Randleman smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Kevin Randleman showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Randleman escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Randleman shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Randleman lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Well, if Randleman is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Randleman lands a nice forearm strike.
abbott tries to buck Randleman off but Randleman is having none of it.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Randleman decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Randleman moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

abbott gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Randleman is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

abbott wants to control the position but Randleman says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.

Randleman decides to stand up.
Randleman lands a nice shot to the body.

abbott on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.

Randleman drags the fight down to the ground.
Randleman manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. abbott manages to get himself to full guard.
abbott is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Randleman not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Kevin Randleman comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Randleman has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
