PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ghazi Okah (ranked 1042 p4p, 145 weight class) and Jari Bull (ranked 846 p4p, 119 weight class). Okah comes to the cage accompanied by Rock Stone. Jari Bull told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
24 - 11 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ghazi Okah! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
17 - 7 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jari Bull! The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, James Ackerman and Daniel Bishop.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Okah takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Okah misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Okah misses with a takedown and Bull counters with a lovely straight right hand! Okah wants to clinch. Okah takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily. Bull circles away from the clinch attempt.
Bull steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Okah. Nice sprawl there from Bull as Okah shoots in. Bull looks to land a right hand but Okah moved out of range. Okah tries to clinch there but Bull circles away.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Okah. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ghazi Okah. That's going to take a lot out of him. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Okah tries to close the distance and clinch up but Bull swats him away and circles back towards the center. Okah takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Bull has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout. Bull digs a good hook to Okah's body.
Bull connects with a jab. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Okah slips under a jab.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bull with a nice cross. Okah changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Bull tries to avoid it but Okah manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Bull to the ground. Bull escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Okah shoots in for a double leg but Bull sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Donk. Bull catches Okah right on the button with a cross. Bull misses with a looping left. Bull lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Bull has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Okah has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Bull lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage. Bull has a couple of punches blocked by Okah.
Bull has Okah pressed against the cage, preventing Okah from circling away and getting back to striking at range. Okah wants to break free but Bull has control.
Bull misses with some punches.
Bull lands with a short shot to the head.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Bull throws a head punch that misses. Bull throws a head punch that misses. An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Bull. Okah working hard to break the clinch. Okah fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Bull misses with the head strike.
Okah blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Okah tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Okah blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Okah pulls guard successfully.
Okah seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission. Bull wants to stand but Okah has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Okah scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Okah fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Bull sprawls well initially but Okah persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Bull is trying to stand back up but Okah is controlling him

Bull tries to kick Okah off but Okah keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Bull regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Okah. Okah stands up and waves to Bull to follow him. Nice shot by Bull. Bull misses with a body shot.
Bull is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Okah had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté. Bull throws a hook but Okah blocks it.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Bull throws a lazy uppercut
and Okah counters with a right hand to the body. Bull moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot. Okah uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Bull. Okah goes for a spinning back kick but it misses. Bull throws a body shot but no joy. Jab, jab by Bull - just one landing. Okah moves away from the strike by Bull. A left lands for Bull. Bull swings for the body but Okah moves out of range.
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky. Bull jabbing away but nothing is landing. Okah tries to score a power double leg takedown but Bull sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Okah somewhat. Jari Bull seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Okah avoids the body shot from Bull.
A quick step to the side and Okah tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect. Bull fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Okah manages to avoid it. Okah shoots in and drives through. Bull sprawls well. Bull lands with an uppercut that bounces Okah off the cage and back into range. Okah looks for a takedown but Bull sprawls well. And an attempted straight right on the counter from Bull! But no joy. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jari Bull dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Okah tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Bull paws at him with a jab and circles away. Okah fails to land with a series of punches.
A little jabbing left from Bull on the counter but it doesn't find it's target. Ghazi Okah is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Okah tries for a takedown but Bull sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Okah tries to clinch but Bull moves out of range. Bull looks to throw the jab but Okah is out of range. Okah takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily. A slow jab from Bull misses its intended target. Okah takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming. Okah fails with an attempt to clinch.
Bull throws a shot from downtown. Okah moves away and avoids it. Okah tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Bull manages to circle out of the way. Bull throws a right hand that misses
letting Okah counter with a right hand. Okah ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Bull throws a jab when Okah was well out of range. Okah swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Bull lands with an overhand left. Okah moves in looking to clinch but Bull pushes him off. Okah dives in and scores a takedown into Bull's guard. Bull is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Okah is controlling him.

Okah controlling from the top position. Bull has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall. Bull working a defensive guard here.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Nice straight punches there by Bull. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Bull. Bull throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Okah slips under a jab. A decent looking cross lands there for Bull. Okah tries to clinch up but Bull circles away and keeps his distance. Jari Bull is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Okah takes a shot right to the bread basket. Bull avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Bull throws a body punch but Okah moves out of range. Bull scoring well with a low kick there.
Okah tries a head kick but it misses.
Okah shoots in for a double leg but Bull sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Okah shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Bull sprawls well. Bull wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Okah gets slowly back to his feet. Bull now looks to counter with a shot at the body. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ghazi Okah. That's going to take a lot out of him. Okah shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Bull as he avoids it easily. Bull lands with a cross. Bull has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Bull throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Okah stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly. Okah takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Bull cracks a nice hook into Okah's ribs. Okah tries to score a power double leg takedown but Bull sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Okah somewhat. Okah uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Bull. Bull misses with a hook
and Okah counters with a big head kick but Bull shrugs it off. A slow jab from Bull misses its intended target. Bull throws a hook to the side of Okah's head but Okah sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Bull misses with a head kick.
Okah is looking to clinch. Bull scores with a leg kick.
Bull fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Okah manages to avoid it. Bull thows a left - swing and a miss! Okah steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Bull. Okah pulls out of a head kick attempt.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Bull connects with a leg kick. Okah looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it. Okah throws the kick towards the body but Bull avoids it. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Okah walks into a straight right hand from Bull. Bull scores with a jab to the jaw. Okah gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Bull cracks Okah with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business. No luck with that takedown attempt from Okah. Okah tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Bull lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent. Okah is looking to clinch. Jari Bull seems to be getting the better of the standup. Bull works Okah's body with a nice hook. Bull thuds a left hand into Okah's body. Okah throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Bull counters with a right hand to the body. A looping hook to the body misses from Bull. Okah does a little dance to reset his feet. Okah shoots in for a takedown but Bull shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Bull lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Bull jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jari Bull showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's time! Okah's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!
Nice sprawl there from Bull as Okah shoots in. Okah takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Okah shoots in looking for a takedown. Bull tries to sprawl out of it but Okah keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Bull manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Okah looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that. Okah shoots in but no luck this time. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ghazi Okah. That's going to take a lot out of him. Bull uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook. Bull misses with a body shot.
Okah looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple. Bull digs a good hook to Okah's body.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it! Bull missing with a left hand there. Okah was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Okah lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook. Okah tries to clinch up but Bull circles away and keeps his distance. A countering left hand to the body from Bull misses. Bull throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Okah stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly. Nice shot lands for Bull. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Bull connects with a body shot. Okah looks to land a combination but Bull avoids it well. Bull looks like he wants to counter punch here. Okah tries to clinch but Bull is having none of it. Both fighters are breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bull misses with a looping left. Bull throws a leg kick which misses Okah's front leg but catches the back leg as Okah tries to avoid it. Okah uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Bull.
Bull throws out a loose jab but Okah uses good head movement to avoid it. Okah darts in trying to clinch and Bull counters with a lovely shot to the body. Okah closes this distance looking for a takedown but Bull circles away. Bull scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business. Okah tries to clinch there but Bull circles away.
Okah shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it. Okah has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Okah there as he acknowledges the shot. Bull ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Okah moves away. Bull ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Okah moves away. Okah looks for the body kick but Bull saw that one coming. Okah throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Bull tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Okah is in Bull's guard. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Bull is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Okah gets to his feet - Bull follows without any prompting. Okah takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness. Okah closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Bull quickly recovers to half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Bull manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Okah keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage. Bull throws a head punch that misses. Okah can't break the clinch.
A short left from Bull. Okah's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Okah tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Okah will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Bull scores with a body shot.
Okah shoots in and drives through. Bull sprawls well. Okah doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body. Bull looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Bull lands with a hook. Okah tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head. A cross from Bull lands. Okah uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Bull.
Okah tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Bull manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Bull swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made. Okah fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Jari Bull is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight. Okah takes the fight into the clinch. Bull scores with a shoulder strike. Bull works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.
Okah wants to get back to striking at distance but Bull won't allow it.
Bull swings wildly with an uppercut but Okah uses good head movement to avoid it. Ghazi Okah has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Okah is trying to pull guard but Bull has him pressed against the cage. A short left from Bull. Okah has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Bull uses from the top position. Bull wants to stand but Okah has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Bull controls from within his opponent's guard. Okah kicks Bull off and gets to his feet. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Bull lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Okah throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Bull's waist but Bull gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Okah off to one side. Bull throws a nice inside leg kick. Okah throws a combination that misses and Bull counters with a right hand to the body. The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end. Okah gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
And that's the end of the fight! Jari Bull comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I've got Bull winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
