Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Deshawn Perrez! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Marcos Correa! The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Trevor Gratis and William Peck.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Correa dives in for a single leg takedown but Perrez sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. Correa shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Perrez sprawls well. Perrez wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Correa gets slowly back to his feet. Wow, both these guys are really going for it! Correa will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Deshawn Perrez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Marcos Correa. Perrez fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Correa shoots in for a takedown but Perrez shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Correa shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Correa was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Perrez tries to bench press Correa off him but Correa keeps the position. Correa is trying to get an arm triangle but Perrez is defending well. Perrez tries to buck Correa off but Correa is having none of it. Correa is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Perrez is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Correa is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Perrez has escaped the position, nice work there. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Correa is looking for a kimura. He might have it! That's one minute gone in the round. Correa tries for a kimura but Perrez is defending well. Perrez tries to strike from the bottom but misses. Perrez tries to bench press Correa off him but Correa keeps the position. Correa tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Correa has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Correa avoids the strikes from the bottom by Perrez. Correa wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Perrez, who protects the arm well. Correa is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Perrez is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Perrez tries to improve position but can't. Correa tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Perrez is trying to improve his position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Perrez on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Perrez tries to get out of the position. Correa in side control, working for a kimura. He's got hold of an arm and he's torquing it... Perrez is tapping! That's the end of the fight!

Marcos Correa decided to call for a title shot in his post fight interview, which was very strange given the fact this fight was for a title and he's already the champion. I guess that's what getting punched in the head does for you.
