PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Lemuel Robertson (ranked 4796 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jimmy Smith (ranked 4793 p4p, 0 weight class). Smith has chosen Metallica - Dyers Eve as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Lemuel Robertson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Jimmy Smith!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Richard Clark and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Robertson looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.

Smith closes the distance and clinches.
Robertson is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Smith to keep the fight standing.
Smith has had enough of the clinch but Robertson keeps him there for the moment.

Robertson jumps guard and drags Smith to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Smith content to stall in guard here.
Robertson is trying to control the position from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Smith's corner is telling him to maintain position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Robertson wants to stand up but Smith is controlling him.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Smith bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Robertson is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Smith connects with a nice short shot to Robertson's temple.
Robertson could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Smith thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Smith thows a huge punch but Robertson dodges it nicely.
Smith seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Smith is working for a submission of some sort.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Robertson wants to get back to his feet.

Robertson pushes Smith off looking to stand but Smith dives back in and keeps control.
Robertson tries to get to full guard but Smith has control of the leg.

Smith decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.

Smith shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Robertson manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Robertson pushes Smith off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Robertson wants to clinch up but Smith keeps it at a distance.

Robertson tries to clinch but Smith is having none of it.
Nice sprawl there from Smith as Robertson shoots in.

Smith closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Robertson wants to get back to full guard.
Smith trying to control the pace.

Smith stands up out of the half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Robertson is looking to clinch.
Smith shapes to counter with a head kick.

Smith decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Smith drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Smith tries to score with some ground and pound. Robertson controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Smith decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Smith gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Smith throws an elbow but it misses.

Robertson breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Robertson tries to clinch but Smith is having none of it.
Smith circles away from the clinch attempt.

Smith shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Robertson's guard.

Smith stands up from Robertson's guard - Smith perhaps looking for a knockout.
Smith throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Smith clinches up with Robertson and pushes him back against the cage.
Robertson tries to pull guard but Smith holds him up against the cage and eventually Robertson drops back down to his feet.
Smith tries to break the clinch but Robertson is controlling the position.
Robertson is looking to take this one to the mat.

Smith gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.

Robertson is working an open guard so Smith takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
An inside leg kick lands from Robertson.

Smith rushes Robertson and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Smith is trying to break the clinch but Robertson has him pressed against the cage.
Robertson is trying to drag Smith to the mat but Smith just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lemuel Robertson. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Smith stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.

Smith has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Robertson is trying to keep an underhook but Smith manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Robertson is trying to escape back to his feet but Smith uses the scramble to pass into side control.

Let's hope that Smith has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Smith stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Smith drives through and clinches with Robertson against the cage.

Smith jumps guard and drags Robertson to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Robertson has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Smith is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Robertson presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Robertson fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Smith has picked Robertson up - he's going for a ride! Smith dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Robertson scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Smith manages to mount him!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jimmy Smith showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Smith has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Smith is taking a breather. Robertson says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Robertson bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Smith working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Robertson doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Robertson manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Jimmy Smith is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

I would just about give that final round to Jimmy Smith.
Well Smith has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
