1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Lionel De Veas! The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Steve Smith and Ian Loll.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! De Veas throws a right hand that Steyn ducks under and follows up with a left that Steyn also avoids with ease. De Veas shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Steyn defends it nicely. Steyn appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body. De Veas tries for a takedown but Steyn circles away easily letting Steyn counter with a right hand. De Veas falls off balance throwing a combination
and Steyn counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body. De Veas doesn't succeed with the takedown and Steyn connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Dale Steyn has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Lionel De Veas. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. De Veas swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Steyn counters with a nice uppercut. Steyn slaps away a takedown attempt from De Veas, before circling back to the center of the mat. As De Veas looks to move away, Steyn throws a big counter combo but De Veas just gets out of the way. De Veas looks winded! De Veas looking to land some kicks to the body here.
It looked like Steyn was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit. De Veas shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Steyn eats them both and turns towards De Veas to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
That's one minute gone in the round. De Veas tries for a takedown but Steyn circles away easily and Steyn counters with a left to the body. De Veas doesn't succeed with the takedown and Steyn counters with a left to the body. De Veas throws a left and a right that both miss
and Steyn cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. De Veas tries to grapple but his opponent circles letting Steyn counter with a right hand. De Veas tries to clinch up and Steyn cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. De Veas with a lazy takedown attempt and Steyn cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. De Veas falls off balance throwing a combination
enabling Steyn to counter with a crisp jab.
That's two minutes gone in the round. De Veas doesn't succeed with the takedown and Steyn counters with a stiff right hand. De Veas shoots and misses and De Veas takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! De Veas tries for a takedown but Steyn circles away easily and Steyn counters with a nice uppercut.
De Veas is rocked! Steyn is really peppering his opponent's head with punches. De Veas shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Steyn counters with a huge left! De Veas is in big trouble! He's backing up but Steyn isn't giving him chance to recover. Under a barage of punches the ref has to step in to save De Veas from any more damage. A dominating finish by Steyn!
