Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Grant Merrill (ranked 6543 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Joe (ranked 6348 p4p, 0 weight class). Joe Joe has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Grant Merrill's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Grant Merrill! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Joe Joe! The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Shigeki Fujiwara and Tatsuya Matsuyama.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Joe buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
A momentary lapse in concentration from Joe enables Merrill to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Joe manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Joe wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Merrill manages to pass to side control. Merrill prevents Joe from standing back up.
Merrill thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Joe's head. Joe manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Merrill keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage. Joe tries to break the clinch but Merrill is controlling the position. Joe tries to pull guard but Merrill holds him up against the cage and eventually Joe drops back down to his feet.
Merrill escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
That's one minute gone in the round. Joe with a poor takedown and Merrill counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Merrill. Joe tries to score a body lock takedown but Merrill shows good agility there to stay on his feet. Grant Merrill has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Joe Joe. Joe looks winded! Joe wants to break free but Merrill has control.
Joe drops down looking for an ankle pick but Merrill pulls his leg out and moves away.
The fight stays on the outside here - Joe looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Joe gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Merrill to score an easy takedown into full guard. Merrill throwing strikes but missing.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Merrill with a nice head shot there. Merrill prevents Joe from getting back to his feet. Merrill throwing strikes but missing. Merrill working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Merrill postures up and lands a big shot to Joe's brow. Merrill throws a big elbow that misses. Joe wants to stand up but Merrill is controlling him.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Merrill gets to his feet. Joe looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son! Joe gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Merrill connects with a couple of short punches. Merrill works over Joe with some ground and pound from guard. Merrill landing some decent shots from guard. Merrill thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Merrill drops back looking for a leg! Joe is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Joe manages to kick Merrill off! Merrill jumps back into Joe's guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Merrill's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Merrill trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Joe looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. Merrill drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Merrill jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Merrill lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Grant Merrill dominated that round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Merrill looks to score with a jab to the body but Joe is just out of range. Merrill misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Joe tries to counter by closing the distance. The crowd cheers as Joe lands an impressive looking overhand right. Merrill doesn't seem phased though. A combination from Joe does no damage. Joe misses with a two punch combination.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Joe tries to sprawl but Merrill drives through with a takedown into half guard. Merrill seems to be looking for submissions.
Joe is breathing heavily. Merrill is working for a submission of some sort.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Merrill scoring with strikes to the body and head. Merrill is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. Merrill has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Joe defend it? Merrill steps over the head and cranks it - Joe is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Merrill!
