PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Carney Duffy (ranked 2503 p4p, 267 weight class) and Sergey Chernishev (ranked 5831 p4p, 488 weight class). Duffy comes into the arena with Brawl - Bloody spit blaring out of the sound system. Chernishev is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by MC Hovanskiy - Father in the building. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 30 - 30 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Carney Duffy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 15 - 0, fighting out of New York, Sergey Chernishev!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Anni Minnemäki and Ben Zyskovitsi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Duffy rushes in with a sloppy looking punch

and Chernishev counters with a single leg into guard. Duffy didn't expect that.

Chernishev wants to control from the top but Duffy keeps moving.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Chernishev is looking to work some ground and pound but Duffy has wrist control.

Duffy has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Duffy seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.

Duffy throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Chernishev pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.

Chernishev throws a chopping leg kick but Duffy manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Duffy goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Chernishev throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Chernishev takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Duffy attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Duffy misses with a hook.
Chernishev fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Duffy looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Sergey Chernishev will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Duffy misses with a leg kick

and Chernishev counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Chernishev.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Chernishev must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Duffy wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Chernishev throws out a loose jab but Duffy uses good head movement to avoid it.

Chernishev lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Duffy backs up against the ropes.

Chernishev bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Sergey Chernishev showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Duffy tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Donk. Chernishev catches Duffy right on the button with a cross.
Duffy will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Duffy is pinned up against the ropes taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

Duffy fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Chernishev.

Duffy can't find room to land a body shot as Chernishev controls the action.
Duffy lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.

Chernishev misses with a punch to the body.

Chernishev looks to land a body kick but Duffy moved away.
