PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight kickboxing rules bout between Jacques Durand (ranked 18544 p4p, 82 weight class) and Gilberto Chamba (ranked 2273 p4p, 38 weight class). Durand's entrance music is Kaaris - S.E.V.R.A.N.. A fine choice. Gilberto Chamba told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Edson Gomes and Seu Braga.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Durand scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Durand's corner calls for a 1-2. Durand obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.

Durand takes the fight into the clinch.
I was talking to Durand's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Durand lands a hook that snaps the head of Chamba backwards.
Durand lands an elbow inside that Chamba shrugs off.

It looks like Gilberto Chamba has been cut.

Chamba escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Durand clinches up with Chamba and pushes him back against the ropes.

Chamba tests Durand's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Chamba throws a body punch but Durand moves out of range.
Durand thinks about countering with a head kick.
Chamba looks to land a left hand but Durand moved out of range nicely.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Chamba throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Crunch! Durand slams his shin into Chamba's torso.
Durand on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

Gilberto Chamba seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Chamba looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Chamba has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Durand.

Durand has managed to clinch.
Durand blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Durand blocks the elbow strike.
Durand using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Chamba has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

Chamba lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Durand or not.

Durand connects with a leg kick. Chamba looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Chamba walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Durand throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Chamba stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Chamba's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.
Chamba pivots, looking for a leg kick but Durand is out of range and Chamba settles back down.
Durand swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
Chamba throws a hook to the side of Durand's head but Durand sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Chamba throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Durand's head.
Durand feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Chamba's calf.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Gilberto Chamba's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.
Chamba has developed a nice purple lump on his ribcage, as a result of some heavy body kicks from Durand.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Durand steps in and throws a big head kick that drops Chamba to the mat! Chamba looks in trouble, can he beat the count? Durand is bouncing in a neutral corner joining in with the referee '4,5,6' they both chant. 7,8,9... he's not going to make it! 10! He's out! Durand jumps onto the ropes and takes in the acclaim from the crowd!
